I am renting a reservation from a member. They said they added Dining Plan to my reservation, but if I don't want it, I can cancel at check in. Is that correct? Should I try to call Disney myself to cancel beforehand? I am 1 week away.

Thanks

You are not supposed to be able to remove the dining plan at check-in. If you change your mind, you should contact the owner you rented from and have them remove it from the reservation. This will need to be done at least 48 hours prior to your check-in day.

I'm pretty sure that you have to add/cancel the dining plan before you arrive. You pay for it at arrival. Once we were supposed to have it, but it wasn't indicated as such when I arrived. The front desk was able to add it on, but I don't think that's the norm.

The member will need to remove it from your reservation. You won't be able to do it. If you can't contact the member before you arrive, you will be doing the plan.

Tried to cancel at check in at AKV last year. They would/could not do it. You have to do it 48 hours prior.

Just want to add that one could go into it with the philosophy of "well, if I don't pay for it they will HAVE to cancel it." But I would advise against that.

The reason for Disney's rigidity is that apparently it's very hard to add or remove the dining plan from a reservation once the data has been transferred to the resort. The resorts and DVC run on two different systems. When the reservation is still "with" DVC, changes are easy. Once the data has been dumped to the resort, changes are much harder.

When we first got access to the dining plan and information was still sketchy, there were reports of DVC members having to wait TWO HOURS in the resort lobby while alterations were made in the computer system.

If you don't want the dining plan, make sure the member removes it at least 2 days ahead and you won't run the risk experiencing problems. :thumbsup2

As the others have said, you must cancel prior to 48 hours before check in day. The DVC Member you are renting from will have to do this for you. Keep in mind, that the Member you are renting from is also responsible for the reservation and I am sure you would not want to do anything that may impact them ultimately.
