Has anyone on the boards wanted to change the reservation?

I just called DLP reservation line and was quoted a $300 difference for the Newport Bay family room with the meals. I asked her if I could change the reservation, cancel the reservation and rebook it, or book the 2nd rate and then go through whatever hoops they request to cancel the original booking.

Is everyone still with me? If I have confused everyone..just bear with me:rotfl:

So, she came back with, no to all questions. The policy is you cannot cancel over the phone, but must send a letter requesting to cancel the room. Then she said she was not able to make any changes to the exisiting reservation. Finally, she explained that I could not book the 2nd reservation with the first one still active. If they saw two reservations with the same name, they will cancel them both.

She provided me with an email, dlp.uk.admin@disney.com and told me to email them the situation.

I have sent an email, however, I was hoping maybe some of you would have more insight.

She also explained over and over that $300 is not that big of a deal and I explained over and over that $300 is a big deal as that is money I can spend on many other things.

The magic email works!! I did not call, but waited to see what would happen and good news!! I was able to get in on the new deal (3 nights for the price of 2 nights) and save over $500 USD!! Hope that helps anyone else.

Do you mean the new package is 300 dollars less than the one you originally booked? if thats the case, yes, you have to cancel your original booking in writing (ie by email) as its classed as a cancellation if the price of an amended booking is less than your original booking, and you will lose whatever % discount is written into the terms and conditions of the package you booked (ie for UK bookings, you lose 10% of the total package price when you cancel your booking).

There is a way round this though - could you add a half board meal plan and/or character meals to the new Newport Bay price, to bring it up to the price you've originally booked at? If so, you don't have to cancel, as its classed as an upgrade (confusing I know, but those are the terms and conditions of a DLP booking).

Brilliant!! That is what I needed to know.

Yes, it is $300 cheaper than the initial booking price. It was $1100 more to book Disneyland Hotel. My trip is April 4th, so there is no cancellation fee this early out. I already have the 1/2 board meal plan. However, would adding Innoventions or Chef Mickey's help or is it only the Buffalo Wild West Show?

Thanks again for any and all information!

if you don't already have the premium half board plan, what about changing to that? that would get you closer to your 300 dollar deficit. Or yes, add a premium meal - like Buffalo Bills, character breakfast, Auberge Princess meal, lunch or dinner at Cafe Mickey. All of these can be paid for in advance by adding to your package price :).

You could also ask for a quote for a family room at the Hotel New York - thats an upgrade on the Newport Bay Club, has better facilities (and hot breakfast at no extra charge) - that might be worth looking into as value for money for your 300 dollars?

Oh wow! I had no idea Hotel New York had family rooms. Yes, I will call back Monday morning and ask all of these questions. I wonder why the reservationist didn't offer that initially?!!

I don't mind adding $200 more for a better hotel, or a nicer meal package. I do mind paying $300 more for the exact same hotel and package;)

Basically, I can make any upgrades to the reservation and get the better prices?

These ideas are all brilliant!! I wouldn't have known or thought about upgrading to HNY or the meal plan. I also didnt know Chef Mickeys could be added and paid for ahead of time.

Thank you so much:) I should have asked the boards before I made that phone call today.

I honestly think sometimes that between all of us here on this forum, we know more about DLP than the CMs on the booking lines do ;).

You've got the idea, basically what you want to do is get your new package price up to or just over the original amount you have already booked, by adding bookable extras.

If you have, or can get your hands on, a DLP brochure, the terms and conditions will help explain it (to you and the CM on the phone if necessary).

I just looked up HNY and it would only let me book 2 children. Are you sure I can book their suites with 5 people?

I guess this is why I need to call back as well. NPB doesn't come up with suites at all either, even though there are a few available for that time.

Sorry, but you can't get more than 4 people in the HNY unless one of the children is classed as an infant.

Only NPB and DLH have family rooms for 5 people on-site.

thats a shame - would 2 interconnecting rooms rather than a family room be any use sweetlovin?

I will definately look into all of this on Monday morning. I think some family members prefer to upgrade the dining over the hotel. I will also look into booking 2 rooms to see if that is doable for us.

Thank you again for everyone's help:)

did you get your new package?

No actually, it was the exact same package. I enclosed the original confirmation email in the email I sent to this uk.admin email above. I explained that the exact same package was less expensive than the original quote.

They emailed me back letting me know they had put the exact same reservation on the new plan and the total price. I am awaiting the new email confirmation letter, but they said I should be getting that in the nest few days.

So, bottom line, they were able to take the exisiting reservation and give me the new better price:)

That is brilliant - great to hear they are good with dealing with these issues and really quickly too. Delighted for you - have a brilliant holiday!
