Cancel a cruise?

Has anyone ever had to cancel a cruise? I am wondering how long it would take to see the credit back to my credit card... or do they mail you a check? Not sure if it makes a difference but we booked through a travel agent. I assume I'll have to contact her? Oh, I just realized also that I recently closed the Mastercard account associated with the card I've used to make payments... what now???

I had to cancel the first cruise I had booked. I had booked it through Dreams Unlimited and I just sent them an email and told them I needed to cancel it and within a couple of weeks (give or take, it was 3 years ago so I don't remember exactly) the deposit was credited back to my credit card. As for the card you originally used being cancelled, I don't know what they would do in that case but my experience with having to cancel was painless so hopefully your's will be too. :)

Call the agent to explain about the cancelled card right away, if you have not already done so. I cancelled a reservation for transport to WDW from MCO by Mears in January and, because I forgot that the reservation was made on a subsequently cancelled credit card, it took until April to get things straightened out. Their billing staff would try and credit my old card, get an error code that prevented the transaction, then give up. I would call to check their progress and they would try again and on and on... It wasn't until the manager got involved that we figured out the meaning of the error code, discovered the problem, and straightened it out. Why they never called to tell me there was a problem, I'll never know. I was finally sent a check.
