Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

It's got nothing to do with feeling safe in the US, aside from the amount of guns there and all. Lol.

It's about a president who is hell bent on ruining Canada's economy.

And he is up to it again. It's unbelievable.

I don't think we know how much power we have. We can completely crush the US tourism industry. We can crush the wine and spirits industry. Maybe then, the Americans will do more than merely apologize for their president and do something.

It's like the ants in bugs life.

I don't think we know how much power we have. We can completely crush the US tourism industry.

For reasons I don't understand, I sometimes post in a couple of US based political forums (arguing with MAGA true believers is about as much fun as taking "getting hit in the head with a hammer lessons"). I do have some statistics handy, which I posted in the political forums, RE: the year over year drop in tourism to the US in recent months. Comparing March, 2025 to March, 2024, we have:

March, 2025
-32% - drop in cars crossing the border from Canada to US
-14% - drop in Canadians flying into the US
-29% - drop in US hotel bookings made by Canadians
-28% - arrivals from Germany
-24% - arrivals from Spain
-23% - arrivals from Mexico
-14% - arrivals from UK
-5% - arrivals from France
-4% - arrivals from India
-1% - arrivals from China

so clearly Canadians aren't the only tourists who are boycotting the United States. I expect the drop in April to be even more dramatic.

As I've mentioned earlier in this thread, I am going to spend a couple of weeks at Disney World this summer because both of my daughters will be working there. But, if it wasn't for my daughters, my wife and I would be boycotting Florida.

I'm not sure about my feelings about visiting Disneyland. Since California is a Democratic state, I could probably convince myself that visiting Disneyland is OK although, deep down, I realize that boycotting California is probably the right thing for Canadians to do right now.

I hear the views about safe states but 77 million voted for this person. Assume every other person you see might have voted for him.....sadly.
You are, of course, correct. I just checked the 2024 election results for California, and That Man received over 6 million votes (or 38%) in California. I'm kidding myself, if I claim that it is OK to visit Disneyland because the state's electoral college votes went to Harris.

As an aside, back when provinces started banning the sale of US alcohol, BC made the decision to ban alcohol from Republican states (Kentucky bourbon) but continue to sell alcohol from Democrat states (California wine). Within a day or two BC broadened the ban to cover all alcohol from the US.

Had a week long trip to WDW this past week. It was booked long ago with the whole family going. As much as I was not really wanting to go, the trip went smoothly and we never encountered any issues at the borders or anywhere else. The only things we ever heard in relation to any of this from Americans was supportive. For those that have trips coming up, rest assured you will likely have a great time in the bubble.

Lol?

Oh well. The world is a very big place.

But funny how memories are so short and I can assure you that if people stay north you will see places offer at par deals. Maybe not at Disney but certainly in many places that heavily rely on Canadians. Maine, Vermont, upstate NY etc.
Las Vegas! not that I want to go there, but until all of this my plan was to do a couple of concerts then camp at the Grand Canyon.

They are already offering some tremendous discounts at the same time as they lay off staff at the hotels. Vegas is hurting right now. The boycott coupled with their ridiculously high prices has put them in the weeds.

I'd have to see at par deals before I take myself south.

Some companies in Washington State have started offering a 30% discount to Canadian customers:

OPEN ARMS FOR OUR CANADIAN FRIENDS

We love our Canadian neighbors. And we regret how our federal government is treating you. We wish we could change what happens in the other Washington. What we can do is show you our thanks for being here. So, we’re taking the Canadian dollar at par — marking 30% off your tab to account for the exchange rate. It’s our way of saying, “We’re glad you’re here, and we’re on your side.”

The website https://openarmsforcanada.com/ lists Washington hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions that are offering the 30% discount.

I'm reminded of my misspent youth in Southern Alberta, back in the 1970s, when the US border town of Sweet Grass Montana would have "Canada Days", where every bar in the town was filled to capacity by Canadians who could buy a can of beer for $1 Canadian.

As an aside: I appreciate the way Washington State is giving a discount to Canadian tourists, but if the situation was reversed, and I was sitting in my favourite Edmonton restaurant, and the Americans at the table beside me got a 30% discount on their food, then I'd be annoyed that I wasn't receiving the same discount.

As others have already noted, the Canadian (and other countries) tourism boycott of the US is already having a devastating impact which is going to get much, much worse in the months ahead.

We've decided that, during our upcoming two week trip to Disney World this August, we'll do our best to minimize the money we spend (stay at All Star Sports rather than Animal Kingdom Lodge, avoid expensive restaurants, etc.). But, cancelling our trip is a bigger financial sacrifice than we are willing to make (we would be out around $1500 in airfares).

Well done!! Every little bit helps. Reductions in spend is also effective.

Ahh Sweet Grass..i will always remeber this crossing as I was driving back to Ontario via usa,,,the inly time i was stipped ,car atripped and held up for over 2hours. Single guy in mid 1990s car full of akiing stuff as i was working at ski hills for over 6months. Only reason I would remmeber that town. Did not have anything for them to find..but then they made me put everything back in my car myself,,after their dog with wet dirty paws walked over all my bedding and cloths..thanks

No dont look at my pp post as shock or sad,,,it gives my memories something to smile about. Hey young kid, car loaded, I dont blame them. They were nice enough,,just I will never forget that crossing or the town of Sweet Grass. If it didnt happen I probably would never have remembered then name of the crossing...lol...Plus they did put my beef jerky on the top of the car so the dog wouldnt get it....gee thanks...lol

I'm confused. Are we boycotting all states or just rep. states? The bar seems to change a lot.
I guess it’s personal. If you’re a historian or have a grasp on political theory you will see that America is on a rapid descent into authoritarianism. If your personal ethics are tied to your political beliefs I imagine you wouldn’t fathom supporting the current regime as it dismantles the rule of law, the constitution of its people and flagrantly ignores the ruling of its highest courts.

Personally I’m not banning products and trips to America because I don’t like America. I’m doing it because I love America and her people and their democracy is being dismantled as they speak. Add in the threats to Canadian sovereignty, based on propaganda and lies.

I genuinely avoid politics on this board because they have been discouraged but this is important to me and my family and we’re going to put our money where our mouth is.

I know you were being flippant with your question but I figured I would answer seriously. It’s getting too out of hand for people to be silent for fear of offending others. This post will draw the usual laughing/ angry emojis .. oh well . I will not be complicit.

I think this has been stated beautifully. It’s a very good answer to a polarizing question.

As an American who adores Canada, I appreciate this so much.

We are in trouble here.

Just returned from an amazing 10 night trip using our DVC points at AKL, BWV and BRV. As expected, we met lots of great people from US, Canada, UK and elsewhere and had a great time. It was a nice break and we are very glad we went. My two bit advice is do what you are comfortable with and what works for you and your family. Boycott or not. IMO You don’t need to feel guilty or defend your decisions to friends, family or people on forums.
