Canadians ordering groceries from Safeway

A few months ago there were some posts about Canadians having problems ordering groceries from Von's/Safeway. Apparently an issue with the billing address not matching home address when using a Canadian credit card. Have others encountered this and are there any ways to work around this? I was really banking on ordering breakfast foods, snacks, and water. I'd love to hear from fellow Canucks about your experiences.

I'm from Australia, and we put the hotel address as our credit card billing address. We had no problems with our bank or Von's doing this.

I'm really wondering about this too for our upcoming trip. I have a U.S. credit card - am I better off using this? (But my credit card billing address will still be, of course, Canadian.) Would I know right away, when I try to place my order, if the credit card won't be accepted? I was thinking that I remember reading about someone not finding out until the day of their expected grocery delivery that they wouldn't be receiving their groceries because of an issue with their Canadian credit card - that would be even more unpleasant. Should I call either my credit card company or Vons/Safeway first before placing my order? I think I remember reading that three weeks ahead is a good time to place an order because that's as early as you can choose your delivery time slot? I would appreciate any information on this! In my experience only certain credit cards worked as payment so try a few! Yes we used hotel billing address as ours. If it works you will know and make sure to phone the credit card company prior to your trip so that you can tell them you will be in the USA. I am Canadian and we have been able to order from Vons the last time was in March. I would see if a originally & primarily USA based bank credit card would work.

Didn't work for me. I will try to call Von's tomorrow and see what they can do.

What I had to do was get one of those Visa cards from a US store (I live only a couple of minutes from the border, so not hard to do) and then I used the hotel address as the billing address. My own cards would not work because the addresses did not match. Not sure if that's feasible for you........

Good tip, but I'm 8 hours from the border. Good for others to know, though. I called Von's this morning and they said there is no way around this and that we're shut out from using them. Huge drag. Very upsetting. At least now we know, Canadians.
