I posted this at the theme parks board but someone suggested I try here. Does anyone know if you can press Canadian pennies in the pressed penny machines? Thanks!

I tried in three of the theme parks MGM and MK and Ak --machine just kept spitting back the Canadian penny. Also at Pop Century it wouldn't work either.
So next time I have a used M&M container full of American pennies to press.

Well, according to my DW, it is illegal to deface Canadian money. Even the lowly penny.

So perhaps WDW is aware of that, and just saved you a 'felony' charge.
;)

We have used Canadian pennies lots of times and they worked OK. I do find that sometimes the design is cut off a little at the top--the American pennies work better. We also use the M & M's container and put in one penny and two quarters for each use.

Thanks for the info! I wonder if it depends on whether or not it's a crank machine?

Older Canadian pennies up to a certain date will work fine, though I can't remember what the cut off date is (does anyone know?). The newer pennies don't work as well as the design is cut off (it has something to do with how they melt--I guess the older pennies melt better). Though as another poster mention some machines won't accept them.:goodvibes

Do they have to be american quarters too? That may sound stupid I guess but just wanting to make sure we have the right things for these. thanks

Cut off date for Canadian pennies is 1982. Anything before that date works great. To make them more shiny, soak them in some vinegar and salt for a bit, then polish them off.

Quarters will not work..albeit just a tiny difference, there is a difference in size between the quarters, and the machines will not accept them in the states.

Hope that helps!

That's what I figured...Thanks a bunch!

Was wondering that myself as I was stuffing M&M's into my face so I can use the container. By the way I choose a lime greem M&M container!:lmao:
