Canadian Dollar is going to cancel our trip.

Yeah, I ended up the Universal route as well. Originally I was going to do an All-Star resort at WDW (accommodations and tickets would have been about $1800 USD so $2500 CAD) plus flight and food and I was getting kind of bummed out.

I decided instead to do Universal to save money (booked the tickets, flight, accommodations separate but it came to approx. $1950 CAD for 8 days)
How did you get all of that for $1950 CAD? And is that for 1 person?

We booked BB at Sports for Late Sep/Early Oct, DH wants to cancel I will try to convince him otherwise!!

Yes, DH has said a couple times that we probably won't be able to go next year due to the dollar. Trust me, I will be doing my utmost to make sure we're still going! Basically the two things that will force us to cancel, is 1. a major price increase from Disney (such as tiered pricing) 2. if the dollar is much below $0.60 by next January, when we'll need to start paying for stuff. I've contemplated taking a part time job waitressing a couple shifts a week to pay for the trip, but honestly - that's really a breaking point for me. I'm not going to work harder than I already do, just to pay for a vacation.

This isn't to say we won't go to Florida, we probably still will. But we'll likely do things other than Disney.

Yep 2 adults.

Here is the breakdown:

Two 3 Park Unlimited passes from Undercover Tourist (they are good for 14 days at US, IOA and W&W): $638.20CAD ($456.26USD)
Two return flights with Delta Airlines from Buffalo (not direct, 1 stop in Atlanta but the times are reasonable): $667.22CAD ($458.40USD)
8 nights in a standard room at Universal's Cabana Bay Resort from Air Transat: $668.10

So it's actually $1,973.52 (a little over my initial estimate but still good though :) )

Just wondering if this if for sure canadian prices...the cost of the hotel in a standard room for September is 780 usd...on their website...which would make it over a thousand cdn.

Yep, definitely CAD. I have the credit card statement to prove it lol.

I just checked and the price for the 8 days I am going in September (3-11) are now $726CAD. I'm not sure what you're seeing. Different regional pricing maybe?

EDIT: Air Transat is CAD unless specifically stated. Are you sure you're seeing USD prices?

EDIT 2: here is a screenshot I just took for the prices as described above:

Oh gotcha, yeah it was a ridiculous price. It works out to approx $50USD/night which is WAY lower than anywhere else. I was expecting to pay almost double.

Our trips are on hold until the dollar heads upwards again. Maybe 2017 or 2018.
Meanwhile, I've rented out some of my dvc points (for US$!) that would otherwise have been wasted.

I miss my happy place!

Thanks so much for posting about getting such good pricing I called up our travel dear and sent her the link and pick of what I could get the hotel for in October...she is gonna see if the one company we are through will price match or rebook it...it will save me $400

I've always been curious as to how this works. Where would I start to look?

Not sure. I'm located in the GTA. Give them a call and ask. They are very nice. I've rented from them and also have rented out my points through them.

Checked their website. There is an address with a unit number, so it sounds like they have a physical place of business.

I hope it works for you. I tried to switch my booking with Flight Centre and my TA said the cancellation charge was more than the savings. Raimiette was the one that posted the deal a while ago. I could have saved $330 or upgraded to the Family Suite at Cabana Bay if there wasn't a cancellation fee with the company my TA booked me with.

Sunwing I believe was who it was through. I had only put down a deposit ($500) and the cancellation was the whole deposit. Their prices are even more than when I booked. Glad it worked for you!

The exchange rate probably should have deterred me, but I booked instead... :headache:
5 nights at Pop, 5 Day Base and Dining Plan... $1825USD becomes over $2600CDN :headache:

This is us, too, but here it's DW who says it's a no-go for this and next year. You know, I just don't know...we know too many people at our age (late 50s) who were waiting to go somewhere or do something and they never got the chance, for many different reasons. Some were health related (or the passing of a family member) so I'm beginning to feel that since DW and I are healthy and if we can go without sacrificing anything important in our lives, we should just go anyway, we can economize easily enough. We always have such a good time. She has a really stressful job and I think she needs a week away in a warm place during the winter just to stay sane.

I'm thinking of POP instead of our usual moderate resort, too. We usually get "free" dining in the fall but I'm coming to think it's a bit of a money waster with the mandatory tipping for TS meals. We can easily cut back to a few TS meals and stick with CS the rest of the time. We've found that carefully choosing a CS meal can easily feed the two of us comfortably. Ordering a bunch of healthy and portable snacks from GG would save a bit more, too. Lots of things to consider, for sure.
