Am in the VERY early stages of planning another trip to your fabulous country, I have a few questions.
This time I'm planning to do a little RV hire, provisional thoughts are to pick up the Rv in Jasper and mosey across the rockies towards either Whistler or Vancouver (would probably go for Whistler) then drop the RV and take a train down to Vancouver a couple of days later. Now, are there many RV parks within the Rockies? approx price per day? are there enough to warrant a 3 or 4 day hire and take our time looking round all that fabulous scenery or is it realistically no more than a two day drive? (we did ir in the other direction a few years ago, went from Vancouver to Kelowna, stayed with friends then bussed over to Calgary and even though we saw fabulous scenerey we couldn't really get off the beaten track.
Can we get anywhere fairly out of the way in an RV or should we just hire a normal car and stop one night enroute?
thanks for your help and sorry its been long, but I've probably got a lot more questions to ask!!

There are plenty of campgrounds in the mountains! Lots of them can accomodate a full-sized RV. Since we are tent people ourselves, I don't have any reccomendations as far as good RV parks go. Our last camping trip was to Kananaskis country and it was beautiful. We were staying right in the mountains. If you have the time, it's definitely worth taking your time driving through the Rockies. There is so much to see and do and the scenery is beautiful. If you have an auto club where you're from, see if they can get you a campground guide, I know we have them here.

Just a few website links to help you out.

Also just an fyi - you essentially have to drive through Vancouver to reach Whistler and I wouldn't want to drive that highway with an RV. You may be better off to take the train both ways, or there is a boat that you can take to Squamish and then train the rest of the way.
Have a great trip!

I agree, it can be a tricky but beautiful drive through the rockies. If I were you I would drive from Jasper to Vancouver and take the train from there. If you need any info about Jasper let me know, I lived there for six months last summer! Hope you have a great trip! :wave2:

THank you all so much, I think then, that I'll RV from Jasper to Vancouver then overnight before taking the train up to Whistler. So 3 or 4 days through the actual Rockies is doable? I didn't want to cover so much ground on day one that we end up in Vancouver early or having to spend 2 nights at the same RV ground at the far west of the national park.

bbangel, will look up those sites now, thanks a lot
Sunny_stace - I may be back to you very soon :teeth:

ok, so slightly revised the plan...
fly into YVR and spend a couple of nights, train to Whistler, again a couple of nights, train to jasper and stay again, a couple of nights then take the Brewsters coach down to Banff including the icefields trip. Stay in Banff for a couple of nights then pick up the RV, first stop Radium Hot springs, is this a doable road in an Rv? 1 night, then to Halcyon Hot Springs for 1 nights, on to Salmon Arm or anywhere on Shuswap for another night then back to YVR?
sorry to keep asking and I know I'm way too early but I do like to be organised!! :goodvibes
