Canadian DISer's Weight Loss Get In Shape Thread

Ok I am on the mend from pneumonia...still sweating~ and guess what? Dh and I are doing WW together!~ I have the best dh in the world! His employer also provides a dietician and kinesiologist for our use for free! He is doing points and I am doing core. For me it is a lifestyle change, for him it really is about portion control. Here we go!!!!!

Glad to hear you are on the mend.
Congrats on your husband joining you:cool1:

WOW - it's been awhile since I have been on this thread....not that I haven't been doing ok....really sucking actually, but I still have been getting in my runs. This Saturday is my 10k race in Banff....please wish me luck. It is a very challenging race and I am very nervous about it. I just want to finish it....after that, I will continue with my 5 factor fitness so hopefully I will be in impeccable shape for my WDW trip in December! Thanks everyone for the continued support!
Jo

Good Luck on your race. Positive vibes are being sent your way:goodvibes

Chrisjo, Good luck on your race. :goodvibes What and inspiration you are. I can't even walk 10K let alone run:lmao: YOU GO GIRL!!!:thumbsup2

purplepeg,
Trying writing down everything you eat and see if that makes a difference in the choices you make. I have been really bad at keeping track and on sparkpeople someone started a challenge to log in food everyday...everybite to see how we do. It might help.:goodvibes

Hey - I just had a great idea!!! Ok, it may not sound appealing to all, but wouldn't it be nice if we could all meet at WDW for the 2009 marathon weekend, usually the second weekend of January?

There is a half marathon (my goal), a marathon, and a 5km fun run (so you can walk or run this!). Registration (I think) opens in March. I thought it would be nice to see who is motivating me and keeping me on my toes!

Let me know if you think this is a good idea....I just thought about it, and I just read a thing on how to keep motivated...one of the points given was to register for an event far away from your home town because the cost of travel motivates you to continue to work-out/train (which I can vouch for - it's working for me this up coming weekend!)

Anyways, just a thought - a weekend away from work, husband (love him to death, but would like a weekend away from him too every now and then!), and every other responsibility, to meet some great people, challenge myself beyond anything I have ever done, and see so many people succeed at their goals....doesn't get much better then that!

That's a great idea! Are you running Melissa's this weekend? My mom ran it once when I was a kid and she trained super hard for it!

I should make it a goal of mine to run a 10K next year sometime. I think I could probably do it. I've been working out (weights, running, yoga) for a year and a half now so the learning curve probably wouldn't be too steep (or so I hope).

I'm going to bounce the 1/2 marathon idea off DW and see what she says. She likely won't run it but I'd love to!!!

Yeah - I'm running the Melissa's Run - and I have NOT been training super hard for it. I am kind of nervous that I won't make it to the end, but I am going to give it my best. I know it's a HARD run, and this weekend I went and ran a hard trail by my parents house, and only made 7.5km, but I think I could have kept going if I was forced to. Also, in a run like that, when there are others running around you, you tend to go further anyways. So, I will see what it's like. My sister works at the running room and she said it's the hardest course that they offer in Canada...so yeah me! I am really scared about this as I haven't been putting forth the effort that is deserving of this race, but oh well....the challenge is there, and that's what I wanted - a challenge. When I registered for the race, I was contemplating the 1/2 marathon as at the time I was running 16 km no problem, but then I had to go for surgery, and well, let's just say that it took me 3.5 months to start running again, and that was in August. I thought it wouldn't be a problem, but I learned pretty quickly how fast you can lose your momentum, so now I can make it to 10km on flat land/treadmill, but adding hills and change in terrain can really slow you down or make your distance shorter, so we will see what happens. As for now, it's my challenge for the weekend and I have to do it...

Keep your chin up, you'll do just fine. Once you get out there your adrenaline will keep you going. Just make sure that you carb up before you head out, slow burning carbs work best (whole grains). I'm still at the point of running for weight loss right now so I try not to eat before going for a run or I'll run after I do my weight routine. I think I need to start training for something, it'll give me a goal to work towards and hopefully get me out of my rut.

Ever since DW and I moved into our house my time at the gym has significantly decreased because we're not as close any more. Plus we did a lot of outside work this summer (fence, deck, patio) AND we got a puppy. All of that stuff combined really doesn't leave much time for the gym. I'm still trying to figure out a way that I can get back there 4 times a week. I suppose in the meantime I just need to watch what I'm eating and increase my water intake.

Good luck with the run this weekend! You can do it!!!!

Hey everyone - hope you've had a good weekend! I just got back from running my 10k Melissas race in Banff, and I kicked a**!!! I ran the race in 1hr 6 min, and came in 1520 of 3336, so better than half! I was really expecting to come in last, so am VERY proud of the time I placed and the fact that I completed it. Actually, I told my BF that I wanted a pic crossing the finish line, but he probably didn't need to be back for about 1hr 15 min, but he came back too late because I finished it way earlier than expected! I shaved over 10 min off of my time - so needless to say, I'm totally proud of myself. Now that I've completed that, I am now going to train to run the half marathon for next year, and hopefully the year after that, I will be able to compete in the Boston Marathon! My BF is going to start training with me, and hopefully be ready to do the WDW marathon in 2009! Anyways, thanks for all the kind words and encourgement from all of you - I am back on the wagon with the weight training and the diet, so hopefully I will be seeing some encouragement from all of you, as well as hoping we can keep the momentum going!

Way to go - you should be proud of that!!

I did well last week. Drank all my water, ate fairly healthy, watched portion sizes, started walking every night with dh and the dog after the kids were in bed and managed to drop another 3 lbs which is amazing considering I usually gain at this time of the month!! I will take measurements towards the end of the week.... not much point right now as I'm pretty bloated!

so 6 lbs total gone.

CONGRATS!!! Decent weekend for the race too!

Hope everyone is well. Got back Friday night around midnight and weighed in Sat, only gained 0.04lbs. I was glad of that, hubby gained 8lbs. Since my job consists of sitting, I figured with all the walking it helped. Now to put a good start back into it.

Trip was awesome and we will be going back in 2yrs. Every picture I looked at of me for this trip I wanted to delete. Didn't realize how fat I looked, said to hubby I was 45lbs heavier when we went last time and I didn't realize how big I am. I guess that will give me my incentive, just keep looking at those pictures.

Way to go girl:banana: :cool1: You must be on such a high:cloud9: I can't even imagine doing something like that so keep it up:yay:

Well sorry I didn't post yesterday. I went in for a shift I picked up. I was mandated to stay for a double shift:scared1: It wasn't pretty. :headache: 16 hrs, my back and legs/feet hurt so bad. Anyway I weighed in and was down 1.8 lbs. I was pretty happy. Way to go for everyone else that posted:cheer2: Keep up the good work.

Hello all...........I have been reading your posts for the last few days and am amazed by the wonderful support you offer to each other. I am heading to WDW in feb and am terrified I won't fit on the rides. I was inWDW 2004 and it was'nt a problem then but I have gained 40lbs since the *sigh*. I only have 5 months before my trip but this thread is enough to get me off my but and on to the treadmill! Thanks to you all!

Just got back from a conference in Vegas. Between the drinks and the abundance of food (and my lack of willpower from not sleeping), I am terrified to put my feet on the scale.

I am back in the swing of things now but I think I might wait a little longer to find out the numerical effects of my behaviour.

Hope everyone else has been better at healthy than me this week...
