Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

Loved all the photos and update on Montreal, it looks like a cool city. You had me there for a minute with the woman and the baby carriage and the bus I was all :scared1:. I've never seen that movie so didn't catch on right away. Heart palpitations and all I read on and was delighted to see it wasn't real!
Glad Luna is doing well. The first thought that ran through my head was " wow she could pick her nose with her tongue!" :rotfl2: Weird, i know!

How's the solo trip planning going?

Question.
Better movie...
Top Secret? Or Airplane?

Discuss.

Gott’a go with Airplane; virtually flawless from one end to the other in a vaudevillian manner. I saw both films in theaters in my younger days actually, but the quips from the older film stand up better. There was much to like in Top Secret, but there were stretches where things just didn’t work quite as well. Although, I am particularly fond of the reasoning behind how the romantic leads got their names.

You should know by now
that all my TRs go downhill after the chapter title.
Granted…
But no need to rush things along.

I have no idea why you find this amusing.

None.

Perhaps a short dissertation on my confusion?
Short… dissertation?

Bawaaaahaaahaaaa!

You go on ahead; I know it will be quite entertaining.

But... but.... COOKIES!!!!
Cookies…
The downfall of so many once great individuals.

And even some not so great ones…
I think I’ll go get me some now.

Sorry. No politics.
You can talk about Trump elsewhere.
And, he speaks for himself quite plainly.

Why? Because she keeps missing??
Because she purposely keeps missing.

Same reason my lovely deserves to be sainted.

Here's an interesting tid bit.
When we were in Paris,
I expected rudeness....

And found nothing but polite, friendly people.
I find that reassuring.
It’s good to know that stereotypes are just that…

Some places, they’re solid as mountain ranges, but good to know that’s not the case everywhere.

Huh. That was easy.
Just a demonstration of the way about a third of our populous conducts themselves in relation to politics.

Thank goodness someone noticed that!
Dad jokes…
Gott’a love ‘em.

Interesting. Perhaps I need to visit Charleston some day.
Yes… yes you do.
And Savannah as well…
and take me along as your guide.

Actually Disney maintains one of their off-world DVC resorts in Hilton Head, which is conveniently located smack-dab in between those two fine cities.

Just sayin’…

Hm. Good point.
What's the architectural equivalent
to being drawn and quartered?

12urbanus-capitol-1.jpg

..... THERE it is!
I thought about saying:
Try the borsht…

But I didn’t want to limit your act to just the Adirondacks.

Not your cup of tea either, huh?
In the Southeast there is a similar concoction known as: Divinity…
I recommend staying away from that as well.

More than enough sugar in that stuff to clog every artery you’ve got along with those of the folks sitting at the next table over.

You have been misinformed.
Dang! I hate it when that happens…

Nah. Too bright.
No dumpsters to lurk behind.
It’s a two-man-job, just close off both ends of the alley once the mark ventures in.

What do you call a guy with no arms
and no legs, hanging on a wall?

Art.
rimshot.gif

Try the Borsht…

French refers to the style of slice.
That much I was aware of.
It’s why we don’t refer to them as “Dutch Fries” (and why it was a face-palm moment par excellence when our Congress “renamed” them “Freedom Fries” :sad2: ).

But…
I thought that “French cut” was basically similar to julienned (culinarily speaking)
And while thin indeed those were, long strips they were not.
You’re a better cook than I; am I wrong in this interpretation?

The character's name was Sphinxter.

OK, you can take the show back out on the road again.

Come up here and try one, then.
Pretty sure they're still fried.
Then again, it's been a long while...
I need to travel up that way for certain…
But I ain’t so certain I ought be using up one of those dining opportunities at Mc’s

If the duck is in a coma,
then it's a vegetable.
Aaaaaand…

We’re back to the Adirondacks.

If you keep parking your feet
that close to me,
you're going to get splashed.

Sounds like you've been eating too many brussels sprouts.

Quebec city is good for that.

Someday I'll get there. Someday...

This reminds me of that scene from Top Secret?

Du Quois:
This is Chevalier, Montage, Detente, Avant Garde, and Deja Vu.

Deja Vu:
Haven't we met before?

Nick Rivers:
I don't think so.

Du Quois:
Over there, Croissant, Souffle, Escargot, and Chocolate Mousse.

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Why would she need two?

Great point. I withdraw the question.

Question.
Better movie...
Top Secret? Or Airplane?

Discuss.

I would probably lean towards Airplane. But then again, I've only seen Top Secret once, many years ago. Perhaps I need to do more research.

Wait....
So you're saying your kids aren't works of art?

Coming from my gene pool, I don't see how that's possible.

My rule more often refers to the experiences I've had walking into a renowned art museum and seeing a canvas with one vertical blue stripe, or some other such nonsense proudly displayed as "art".

Health reasons.
That's what I tell myself.

Yeah, I'm an idiot.

No argument he--I mean, uh, don't beat yourself up too bad.

While I admire the direction you're going,
there really isn't a lot of work on this one.

That's the point! Eat more potato chips! Something's gotta kill ya. Might as well die happy.

We were told that the surgery would cost
somewhere around $2,500 - $3,000.
I guess we can tack on the close to $400
it cost for X-rays on Sunday,
probably the same amount in 3-4 weeks,
and who knows for follow up surgery.

oy.

Needless to say,
or maybe it's needed...

I told Ruby that I'm cancelling our Disney trip.

Oh man, I saw this coming as I was reading about her surgery :sad2: glad I read ahead the other day to find out you're still coming down!!!

Owww preciouss girl in her precious slipper

On my walk to the rental place,
I snapped this picture of a train station.
Just for you.

IMG_1405_zps3wjsr9p0.jpg

I like it. And I like your flag.

But I promise, if anyone's still reading,

Betty... (Her full name is... uh... 'Itching Betty.
except her name is a tautogram.
And now you have something to Google.)

HAHA I did have to look this up.

Which is weird for me.
'Cause I'm not a big maple syrup fan.

You should be deported from Canada, this is almost treason.

However... oh boy... was it good!

That's more like it. :thumbsup2

Ya know what?
You're sick of Harley stores, aren't you.
That's not a question.
I know you're sick of them.

No ! Do you like the Harley store at Downtown Disney? How did you start collecting poker chips? Is it just Harley Davidson poker chips?

IMG_1412_zps0jr24dwi.jpg

That's the Olympic Stadium in the background.
Well... part of it.
Actually, what you can see,
is the tallest inclined tower in the world.

WHAT? How does it stand?

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Moments later, Ruby's back at the door.
Screaming.

"SHE GOT OUT OF HER LEASH!! CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME!!

Oh dear Lord :headache:

I go outside and Luna's running around the yard.
And we can't catch her.
She's too fast.

Apparently dogs tend to take running as a game, so if you run towards them they'll run away from you.. but if you run AWAY from them, they often run towards you! I read that ages ago and it worked with my dog in the woods once :goodvibes
she decided to check on Luna.

More screaming.
"SHE'S GOT HER CONE OFF!!! CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!"

I was really, really looking forward to this one.
Several reasons.
In no particular order.
1. It's not every day that Ruby agrees to go to Disney!
2. A cruise! We've always wanted to try it.
3. I was meeting some very special people.

I seriously can't tell you which one disappointed me the most.

ERRRRRM I can tell you which one disappointed you the most.. :teeth:

So......

I fly out on September 14th, arriving that afternoon.
Spend a few days in Disney.
Fly home on the 18th.
It's all booked.

Again... WOOOO.

Which means...
So, @TheLittleKatie, @BibbitybobityLu and @PrincessCaitlin....
still wanna meet up?

ABSOLUTELY YES YES YES :cheer2::banana::jumping1::banana::cheer2:

Ruby's great.
Very understanding.
Very tolerant.
She has yet to hit me upside the head
when I do this.

Oh, I deserve it, of course.
But sooooo worth it.

Yes you do.

But a woman with a baby carriage hadn't noticed.

My heart stopped for a second!

"It's cans. It's Ok, it's cans."
"What? " She said.
"They were just cans." I repeated.

:lmao:

Oh.
That's from the movie Speed.
With Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.
Good movie.

This is what happens when I don't take notes.
Some of the details get mixed up a bit.
Now that I think about it...
nothing eventful happened at all.

Bahahaha you got me!

I sure hope you guys can see all the accents
in what I just wrote.
If not, just look at the sign and trust me on this.

And why shouldn't you trust me?
Have I ever lied to you?

Cans! It's just cans!

:rotfl2:

My favourite little cafe/restaurant has this light shade! It's from IKEA!

But suffice to say, there seemed to be
less praying and more preying.

PREACH IT PKONDZ :worship: just don't charge me.

It's a mini Empire State Building!

I like this.

At the center of the square is a statue of
Paul Chomedy de Maisonneuve,
the founder of Montreal.

IMG_1435_zpsetijkajn.jpg

Ahh good ol' Paul Chomedy.
(I'm pretending to be cultured but I'm not.)

See the woman walking to the right of the cement truck?
She was driving a scooter and went up a ramp
that I guess she thought was placed there for through traffic.
She went airborne and landed right in some fresh cement.

Wait... no. That was Spy, with Melissa McCarthy.
Man... I really need to take notes.

I love that film don't tease me like that.

As I was sashaying,

YAAAS there it is.

beyoncepowerwalk.gif

Well this is embarrassing.
That's from The Blues Brothers.
It didn't happen.

I'm getting an insight of what goes on in your mind when you're walking around

I did cross the street.

Well I guess that's just as thrilling ...

Shelves filled with every conceivable type of maple syrup
and maple products.

#Canada

Sweet! Looks relaxing.

A couple of years ago,
Kay and I made a New Year’s....
I'd say more of a bet than a resolution.
We wanted to see if we could go an entire year
without eating fries.

And while it wasn't easy... or all that fun...
We did it.

Wow! That is impressive!

Our "French fries" arrived.

IMG_1485_zpsswvp4uue.jpg

 dang, just when I was starting to master the chips/crisps language barrier

Aww glad she's doing well!! :dogdance:

Loved the stroll through Old Montreal.

Glad you enjoyed it!

We were there in February a few years ago, so a lot of the businesses and restaurants were closed as it wasn't tourist season.

Might've been a tad cooler, as well.

We really enjoyed the museum, and had a great meal at The Fire Grill.

A place called "The Fire Grill" just sounds
like it should be good. No?

Our hotel wasn't in a particular posh area, so we couldn't even find a St. Hubert - we ended up for one of our meals at a small Macs/Winks, called Couche-Tard. It means night owl, but to us Westerners it seemed like a much funnier name!

 Yes, as soon as I read "Couche-Tard",
I said it first in French and then with an English accent.

And yeah. Pretty funny.

Loved all the photos and update on Montreal, it looks like a cool city.

Thanks! It was a really neat area to sashay around.

You had me there for a minute with the woman and the baby carriage and the bus I was all :scared1:.

 Sorry about that!

I've never seen that movie so didn't catch on right away.

It's actually a pretty good movie...
if a trifle implausible.

Heart palpitations and all I read on and was delighted to see it wasn't real!

 Cans! It's just cans!

Glad Luna is doing well.

She is!
The vet called
(but not the surgeon... yet.)
and said she seems to be healing nicely.

The first thought that ran through my head was " wow she could pick her nose with her tongue!" :rotfl2: Weird, i know!

:lmao: Yes, that's weird.
We'd get along just fine.

How's the solo trip planning going?

<sigh> Not well, really.
Busy with other stuff or just not motivated.
But I did get a couple of ADRs and FPs done.

Hmmm... And yet... I find that the funniest parts of
Top Secret were funnier than Airplane.
Mind you... I will quote Airplane bits, and not Top Secret.
"Don't call me Shirley."

Definitely the one with the most "lasting power"
seems to be Airplane.

But... that Cow scene!!! :lmao:

Granted…
But no need to rush things along.

Yeah, it'll do that all on its own.

Short… dissertation?

Bawaaaahaaahaaaa!

You go on ahead; I know it will be quite entertaining.

Try the veal.

Cookies…
The downfall of so many once great individuals.

And even some not so great ones…
I think I’ll go get me some now.

<munch><munch><crunch>... What?

And, he speaks for himself quite plainly.

:rolleyes2

Because she purposely keeps missing.

This is true.

Same reason my lovely deserves to be sainted.

Yup.

I find that reassuring.
It’s good to know that stereotypes are just that…

Some places, they’re solid as mountain ranges, but good to know that’s not the case everywhere.

::yes::

Wait.
Are you saying people who live on mountain ranges
are more stereotypical?

Just a demonstration of the way about a third of our populous conducts themselves in relation to politics.

:rolleyes1

Dad jokes…
Gott’a love ‘em.

Oddly enough, the Dad's kids don't.

Yes… yes you do.

Yep...

And Savannah as well…

Yes!...

and take me along as your guide.

Ye.... uh.... um....

(Actually, I'd like that.)

Actually Disney maintains one of their off-world DVC resorts in Hilton Head, which is conveniently located smack-dab in between those two fine cities.

Just sayin’…

So I've heard.
But truthfully, I get enough of Disney at Disney.

:rotfl:
Perfect!

I thought about saying:
Try the borsht…

But I didn’t want to limit your act to just the Adirondacks.

Too stereotypical?

In the Southeast there is a similar concoction known as: Divinity…
I recommend staying away from that as well.

More than enough sugar in that stuff to clog every artery you’ve got along with those of the folks sitting at the next table over.

Well, geez. Now I have to try it!

Dang! I hate it when that happens…

If Trump gets in, be prepared for more of that.

It’s a two-man-job, just close off both ends of the alley once the mark ventures in.

Good point.

That much I was aware of.
It’s why we don’t refer to them as “Dutch Fries” (and why it was a face-palm moment par excellence when our Congress “renamed” them “Freedom Fries” :sad2: ).

Yep. I recall that episode.
Stupid.

But…
I thought that “French cut” was basically similar to julienned (culinarily speaking)

::yes::

And while thin indeed those were, long strips they were not.
You’re a better cook than I; am I wrong in this interpretation?

No. You're not.
They were definitely not French cut.
I suspect a translation error.

OK, you can take the show back out on the road again.

Woot! I'm back!
Nice to see you all again!

I need to travel up that way for certain…
But I ain’t so certain I ought be using up one of those dining opportunities at Mc’s

Please.
I refuse to go to McDonalds as a rule.
I'm certainly not going to go to one
when I'm traveling except as a last resort.
(Did that in Germany. East Germany,
not long after the wall came down.
There was literally nothing else around.)

Aaaaaand…

We’re back to the Adirondacks.

Dang. Must've had the stereo on too loud.

Sounds like you've been eating too many brussels sprouts.

Said no one to pkondz.... ever....

Ever.

Someday I'll get there. Someday...

I was going to say
"You've got to come to Winnipeg first!"

But... yeah. Quebec city would be more interesting, I think.
Even though we are the largest producer of bacon in the country.

Great point. I withdraw the question.

Smart.
There's hope for you yet.

I would probably lean towards Airplane.

That's two...

But then again, I've only seen Top Secret once, many years ago. Perhaps I need to do more research.

I suggest we queue up both movies and watch them back to back
and see which delivers the most belly laughs.

I foresee an afternoon of mirth in our futures.

Coming from my gene pool, I don't see how that's possible.

Good point.
They do have 50% good stock, though.

My rule more often refers to the experiences I've had walking into a renowned art museum and seeing a canvas with one vertical blue stripe, or some other such nonsense proudly displayed as "art".

Oh, man...
See this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_of_Fire

I remember that debacle quite well.

No argument he--I mean, uh, don't beat yourself up too bad.

Thanks!

That's the point! Eat more potato chips! Something's gotta kill ya. Might as well die happy.

Yeah, yeah..... it was more of a "I wonder if..."

So, so stupid.

The same!

I will explain my absence in a bit...
or in a while...
Whichever...
This sounds like my present little piece of ambivalence as well. I mean good intentions and all, but too many conflicts.

It's been very quiet in my land of the DIS, you are not the only one who has been absent. I've got completed chapters all done on my TR waiting for people to read the ones I've already posted!

Oh man, I saw this coming as I was reading about her surgery :sad2: glad I read ahead the other day to find out you're still coming down!!!

And it's all thanks to Ruby.
When we get together,
we're going to have to have a toast in her honour.

Owww preciouss girl in her precious slipper

And now she looks like she's wearing velour tights and a slipper!

I like it. And I like your flag.

Our flag is awesome. ::yes::

:goodvibes

HAHA I did have to look this up.

Evil plan works... check!

You should be deported from Canada, this is almost treason.

I know.
Several times I've had multiple members
of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
come to my home.

No ! Do you like the Harley store at Downtown Disney?

Wait... What?
There's a HARLEY STORE AT SPRINGS?????????

WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS????

How did you start collecting poker chips?

Actually, Ruby mentioned it to me.
Someone she knows has a Harley
and mentioned them.

Is it just Harley Davidson poker chips?

::yes::

WHAT? How does it stand?

Rigidly.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

::yes::

Oh dear Lord :headache:

I know!
My brain kept going
"Stop! Stop! Staaaaaawwwwpppp!!!"

Apparently dogs tend to take running as a game, so if you run towards them they'll run away from you.. but if you run AWAY from them, they often run towards you! I read that ages ago and it worked with my dog in the woods once :goodvibes

And this is how it went.
"Chase her!"
<Dog runs in circles>

"Wait! Run from her!"
<Dog runs in circles>
"Let's go in! She'll follow us!"
<Dog runs in circles>

ERRRRRM I can tell you which one disappointed you the most.. :teeth:

And you'd be right.

Actual conversation:

Ruby: "What's wrong? Why are you so depressed?"
pkondz: "I was really looking forward to meeting Lu and Katie.
And I don't know if I'll ever have the opportunity again,
since they're both from across the pond. It's the only reason
I was wanting to go."

Again... WOOOO.

::yes::

ABSOLUTELY YES YES YES :cheer2::banana::jumping1::banana::cheer2:

:goodvibes

Got your reply to the PM... getting it figured out, I think.
Still waiting to hear if the time's okay with Lu,
MHSweb79 is good to go
and haven't heard from Caitlin yet (don't think you know her.
But she and her family are really nice.)

Yes you do.

Yes. I know. I do.

My heart stopped for a second!

Should've warned you to have the heart paddles warmed up.

Bahahaha you got me!

My favourite little cafe/restaurant has this light shade! It's from IKEA!

I thought they were!

PREACH IT PKONDZ :worship: just don't charge me.

 But then... how will I fund my Disney obsession?

Good eye!

I like this.

Me too. Don't see that much anymore.

Ahh good ol' Paul Chomedy.
(I'm pretending to be cultured but I'm not.)

Actually, that part I wasn't familiar with,
but Maisonneuve, I was.

I love that film don't tease me like that.

You know,
I wasn't impressed with the trailer.
But I saw it was on Netflix and thought,
"What the heck."
I liked it! I made Ruby and Kay watch it.

YAAAS there it is.

beyoncepowerwalk.gif

Nah...
I'm nothing like that.
I only wear gloves when I'm on my bike
or in the winter.

I'm getting an insight of what goes on in your mind when you're walking around

Hate to disappoint you, but... nope.
My mind is far more twisted than that.
I tone it down for the DIS.

Well I guess that's just as thrilling ...

Nothing more exciting than
a good street crossing!!!!

 Pretty much.

Sweet! Looks relaxing.

Oh, it was!

Wow! That is impressive!

Impressively stupid?
I'd agree with that.

 dang, just when I was starting to master the chips/crisps language barrier

 I actually thought of you!

Aww glad she's doing well!! :dogdance:

::yes:: The vet said she seems to be healing well.

I'll be really interested to see what/where these are...

I'll let you know what they are....
on the TR.

Nothing too Earth shattering, though.
I can tell you that much.
I don't have time to do overly much.

This sounds like my present little piece of ambivalence as well. I mean good intentions and all, but too many conflicts.

Details in a bit...

:hyper:

It's been very quiet in my land of the DIS, you are not the only one who has been absent. I've got completed chapters all done on my TR waiting for people to read the ones I've already posted!

I've seen that you've posted
and I will get over there eventually!
If you can wait until I do, great.
But if you can't, then go ahead and post
and I'll catch up.

And for those of you wondering where I was the past few days...
It's all good.

My DSis flew in late last week.
She's a big hometown football fan.
So she bought two tickets to a game
and I went with her.
That was Wednesday night.
The game was supposed to start at 7:30pm,
but due to a severe thunderstorm,
the game was postponed until 10pm.
Didn't end until almost 1am!

But... wow! Are we glad we stayed!
Our team, while having the most
appearances at Grey Cup (the final)
and being third overall with wins,
has been floundering for the past
several years.

Our starting Quarterback has been playing poorly,
and was yanked in favour of the backup last game.
Half of our receiving corps and most of our defense
is injured.

Turns out (at least after two games) our back up is...
better than our first stringer.

At the end of the half, we were winning 34-0.
Final score was 37-11.

Sad news, my laptop finally crapped out.
It's actually running again, but not until
after a complete system reboot.
So... it's like new... with practically nothing on it.
Luckily, most of my files were already backed up.

Good news... I got a new laptop.
But I'm still setting it up.

So that's where part of the time went.

And then there was last night.
It was my parent's 60th wedding anniversary.

I didn't really want to do anything special
other than maybe a nice meal,
but my sister wanted to celebrate.
Mom wanted something small.
Dad wanted something big.
So we wound up having a nice meal
with 16 total guests (everyone incl.)

It was a nice evening.

So that's pretty much where I was
the last little bit.
