Hi all. I was just wondering if anyone knows if you can add on points from Canada. Due to laws we had to buy in while we were in Florida but now that there is a business type relationship does anyone know if we can now purchase add on points from home? Thank you!:)

Okay this is really embarassing. After I just asked this question I did a past serch on my user name and I actually answered this question for someone else months back. I thought I knew the answer but could not remember and it has been bothering me for a couple days now. My appologies. I feel so silly....

No need to feel silly! I am curious though, what was the answer to your question?

Our guide told us apparently from what I answer to someone else a few months back that we had to go down to Florida to purchase add on points. They are able to answer questions on the phone now but no purchases can be made from Canada unless you are a resident of Ontario. :)

Is it cheaper for you to fly to Orlando or LAX? You can add on at either. I remember you saying where you were from so I thought I would mention it.

P.S Welcome neighbour!!! (In more ways than one)! teehee

You can do resale from home... so that's an option! We did 2 contracts from home (Alberta) using The Time Share Store... it was great!

We just did the spa at SSR last week it was really nice!!! They discontinued the sensitive soother which is what we booked. So they gave us an alternative with the DVC discount + an additional 15% discount. We toured the SSR Villa and the models of our home resort...VERY nice indeed!:cool1:

Really??? I thought they were unable to send out any information as well... this is very good to know. If it is because Canadian laws I wonder why some can sell and others can't. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi we have also purchased a DVC membership from GMAC, we are still waiting for ROFR right now, (9 days to go before our 30 days are over :scared: )

We inquired as to why Disney only shipped their DVC DVD information disk to Ontario, and from what we have been told DVC can only advertise to sell in Ontario because they have bought a licence from the Canadian Goverment for the right to advertise timeshare sales there only. (I guess the rest of Canada wasn't rich or big enough? :confused3 )

But because you contact resale brokers, the law that DVC has to follow does not apply to resales because you are contacting them thus this is why you can buy DVC resales.

Apparently once DVC got a whiff of how much disposable income was here they unsucessfully applied for a license here also. Resales are not required to follow the same guidelines. You cannot contact DVC and request information but can on resales. The license they buy is directly from the each provincial govt. It is a lot of hassle and paperwork that is why you do not see each province allowing it. Here's hoping your rofr passes Nigel8600. Where did you buy at? We live very close to you on the northern edge of Calgary!:goodvibes

I do not know if it is a Canadian Law or Provincial, because like someone else stated I live in Ontario and we can buy into DVC and buy add-ons over the phone here. Just a lot of faxing back and forth. Hope everything works out for you.

They have to apply to sell in each province individually as the laws for selling timeshares in each province are different. Ontario is the only province they have a license to sell in at this time.:goodvibes

No you are right it is a Provincial law sorry. Our previous guide who has since quit DVC told me when I specifically asked that we could call there and ask any questions now that there is a business relationship. Found out after a phone call that that is not the case and they said he gave us incorrect information on that too.

Wow, that sucks. I sure hope you get it all worked out and hopefully they can change that law soon so we can all live with our Disney problem.:thumbsup2

Okay... little off topic.. but since two of you are from Calgary (me too :))... what are you finding as the cheapest flight options for February? Any hints for me (we're going 'home' for the first time to AKL)?

It's not the law that needs to change (as it would open the door to other non-licensed real estate sellers). DVC has chosen not to obtain licenses in provinces other than Ontario.

As I am in Ontario (and purchased in Ontario) my DVC purchase is governed by both Florida and Ontario law. ie in Ontario law it is enshrined a right to cancel a timeshare purchase within 10 days of signing the contract, and all funds including any deposit or downpayment must be returned. In fact, I had to sign some specific Ontario forms that ensured I knew I had the right to cancel.

My guide told me during the Getaway Expo that DVC indeed sent in the paper work to Alberta for Disney to be able to sell DVC here, but for some reasons, the process has not been completed yet.

Really???!!! That would be great. What is the Gataway Expo and when was this? I hope the process would be compleated soon. Our new guide told us that as long as we were in Ontario or in the U.S. we could buy add on over the phone and he could Fed Ex the dicuments to us. But being from Saskatchewan. Alberta would be much more convenient. Providing the information our guide gave us on this is indeed correct.
