Canada to announce new travel restrictions

Does "sun destinations" include florida.
For flights direct quote from CBC article located HERE
"This morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Air Canada, WestJet, Sunwing and Air Transat have agreed to suspend service to some sun destinations starting this Sunday until April 30, and will be making arrangements with their customers who are in these regions now to organize flights home. "

I don't believe so. "Additionally, all flights to and from vacation destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico will stop as of Sunday and remain suspended until at least April 30, Trudeau said."

I'm a bit surprised honestly

With the added $2000 that you have to pay upon returning to Canada I doubt many will be willing to add that expense to go to Disney

That and who has 5 weeks vacation? 2 week quarantine when you enter the US, a week at your destination, then another 2 week quarantine when you come home.

I suppose if you rent a house with a pool you could just quarantine there for 2 weeks and make that your trip, but...(a) that still requires 4 weeks vacation and (b) Who is really going to spend thousands of dollars to go sit in a house for 2 weeks?

OMG I am so worried now (booked for September with flights). I can't afford another $2,000.00 on top of the vacay lol (regardless of what quarantine rules might be on at that time). My sister has told me to calm down though, it is a long way away and I'm just obsessing but I remain concerned.

So much can change by then like how much of the population is vaccinated, and subsequently if/how restrictions have changed. If you are able to cancel leading up to the date then I wouldn't worry about anything (other than the potential temporary disappointment of not being able to go if things are still locked down).

Getting really frustrated. The travel ban is just security theatre and laziness. All they needed was better enforcement of the existing quarantines for travellers and community transmission cases, along with improved and more extensive testing and contact tracing. And supports like the paid sick days so that people don’t feel forced to go to work sick.

Why are millions of rapid tests sitting in warehouses unused, when they could be used to help safely reopen schools, stores, restaurants, travel, etc? Or even just use the rapid tests at LTCH, screening staff and visitors before entry on a daily basis?

Any why is it that every time we turn around, vaccine shipments are being cut and/or delayed? With all the money Trudeau is throwing around in various covid-related initiatives, you’d think he would spend whatever he had to in order to get the actual item that’s going to save lives here and distributed. Saw a great interview on CTV with the international affairs guy, and he sidestepped the question even though the interviewer asked it repeatedly in different ways. I guess some countries (like Israel, that’s supposedly paid extra for bigger and faster deliveries) care more about their population than ours does.

Here in Nova Scotia, we are utilizing mobile pop-up testing sites daily around the province for asymptomatic people to get tested. We started these back at the start of our second wave with the 20-40 age demographic and the bar/restaurant areas. Test, test, TEST!

Sadly they aren't doing that here in NB. 🙁

? If you now have to have a test and quarantine for 3 days while you wait for results, what happens if you have to continue on to another city?

ie. flight from Orlando to Halifax lands in Toronto. You get off and do your 3 days. Then do you board a flight for Halifax and finish up the 14 days. Normally this would be considered 2 different flights instead of a just a layover (because of the 3 days stay)

Any thoughts as to how they might deal with this?

I think you would have to have 2 different flights. I bet the airlines make it so you can’t book connecting flights like that right now.

Why is it so hard for Trudeau to give us the date of when the hotel quarantine would start? I feel like he is always stringing the public along. Lets just move on...

If I base myself with what I have seen the federal government do so far, this will be ineffective from day 1. In Quebec the pandemic spread from travelers from Europe, China and New York. It does not make sense to restrict travel only to Sun destinations and permit travel to other parts of the world. The policy really targets people traveling south and that makes no sense.
