TRASH in their own country!!!

I'm sick of it being dumped here in Michigan!! Ridiculous that our state allows it to happen!!!

You have to wonder why a country that size can't find some place to put their own trash! I can't believe that the money would be that much of a deal for us to be taking it here.

DH works for the railroad and tells me that there are endless "garbage trains" that take the garbage from New York City and send it out west somewhere and dump it. Maybe we should re-route those trains north - waaaaaay north.

Why is it Canada's fault? Michigan is buying the trash. They are making a profit. Canada is not dumping it for free you know! Michigan bid for and won the $22.5 million contract.

THis is such big business right now. I live in a very small town, that was literally in bed with one of the bigger trash companies here in Mass for years. When the contract ended, and they had to cap the landfill (which had also been taking in other town's trash as well) our town lost all kinds of revenue, and now we PAY to have our own trash picked up, and brought somewhere else.

I agree with damo, it's not like they are sneaking over the border, or tossing it over the neighbor's fence, so to speak. I am sure the state of Michigan knew what it was doing when it bid for and won the contract.

I just wonder what would happen if they let the people vote on it. Probably the politicians knew most of us wouldn't want the trash brought in, so they just went ahead and made the decision without asking the rest of us.

That seems to be the usual way things like that work...*grumble, grumble, grumble*

It sounds like a tradeoff to me. We send acid rain to Canada and they send trash to us. It's a shame that there's so much of this stuff.
