I'm quite happy to keep it as it is. Kind of like the Americans - how silly would it be to see them celebrate the 4th of July on the 5th or 6th?
Would you also recommend that they "float" Christmas or Remembrance Day?
When the United States chooses to celebrate their Independence Day would not seem silly to me at all.
We manage to celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria on Mondays that are not May 24th and no one seems to have a problem with it.
We also manage to deal with Labour Day and Thanksgiving always being on a Monday.
Those provinces that have a day off in February and August have it on a Monday, regardless of the date.
Christmas is celebrated in many countries around the world so no, I wouldn't recommend that it be floated.
Remembrance Day is not a national holiday although it is still a day off in many parts of the country, but like Christmas, it is observed by multiple nations (although called different names in different countries), so no I don't think it should be floated.
I am also not recommending that Canada Day float.
I merely posed the question, since in my office, they are giving us Monday off and we will be working on Tuesday, so we get a three day weekend, but miss taking part in any events on Canada Day and I wondered how other people felt about the holiday.
Given that as of this reply, 117 people have clicked on this post and only 11 have bothered to vote, apparently most people don't care (guess I should have provided an option of indifference in the poll).
Canada Day on the other hand impacts just one country.
