Can you wear a baseball cap to a restaurant?

I really don't see what the big deal is in wearing a hat at a restaurant. It doesn't hurt anybody, it doesn't get in their way, if the person really can't stand it, the shouldn't look at it! Unless it's a place where formal attire is required, I think it shouldn't matter and seeing how I know this place is a restaurant connected to a mall, I don't think that guy should've gotten as upset as he did. Personally, when I wear hats they leave a huge ring around my head like I'm wearing a ?yarmulke?(the Jewish head cover thing) and it makes me look like a complete idiot. I'd rather just wear the hat than look like an idiot or I just got out of bed.

My husband and I went to Bravo Italian restaurant this evening for dinner. It is located at a popular shopping mall near our home. Halfway through our meal, an older man in his 70's walked past the aisle and told my husband to take his hat off. He kept on walking...out the door. We were so shocked. My husband was so upset by his comment that he didn't even finish his meal! It was a navy blue cap that said ADIDAS on it.
What is your thought on wearing baseball caps to a restaurant?????????

To be honest, whenever I see a man wearing a hat while he is sitting down at a restaurant, I feel sorry for him that no one ever taught him manners. I figure he must have not have ever been taught any manners at all if he failed at learning one of the most basic lessons.

I'd have been uncomfortable sitting at the same table with a man who kept his hat on during a meal.

While I wouldn't say anything to you I would think that you were rude and would feel sad that some people just don't have any manners anymore. If you know you are going out to eat leave your hat at home.

At my daughters house the quickest way to get mama to go upside the DGS's heads is for them to forget to remove their hat!!! Refuses to have mannerless children.

Do you mean she hits them “upside the head”

I despise hats indoors, but if you have to “go upside” a child’s head because they didn’t take their hat off, I think you need to re-evaluate how you teach manners

We went to an Italian restaurant in a strip mall. My brother walked in with his baseball cap on (He does take it off when he sits down) and was told No Hats allowed in the restaurant.

Yes, the man was rude. Me, I don't care if a man has a hat or not. But I also think your husband is over reacting. But I understand that too as my DH would be upset by someone's comment. (or would have been before he started taking medication)

unless it is the kind of place you have to make a reservation at and it's not inside an amusement park...you can wear whatever kind of hat you want...My husband wears a hat all the time and I"m sorry, but there's no need to take it off inside a casual dining restaurant...Now again, if it was a fancy reservation type restaurant, he would not wear the hat and dress up, but otherwise who cares??? I never understand the whole mentality that you shouldn't wear hats indoors..personally, it's ridiculous to me...I never even knew people got all huffy about it until I joined the disboards...

The OP's husband displayed poor manners by wearing a hat in a restaurant.

The other patron displayed poor manners by telling the OP's husband he was wrong.

A comment from a stranger should not have left the OP's husband too upset to finish eating, or still upset x hours later.

As for the "if you know you are going out to eat". The place they went is attatched to a mall... Many people could end up spending more time than they expected at the mall, and then just choose to go to this restaurant.

It is not a matter of who has less manners. The OP asked if wearing a hat at the table/restaurant was rude and I answered.

While that is true, most men that I have seen will suffer with the "bad hair" look because they have manners and know they should not be wearing a hat at the table.

I find it ridiculous that people care what people wear when they go out? To me, and EVERYONE I know wearing hats indoors doesn't even pertain to manners in any way... Personally I don't know anyone who is offended by people wearing hats indoors or to the table...but then I guess we're all just a bunch of mannerless heathens who shouldn't leave the house for fear of possible offending someone with our fashion choices...

Gentlemen remove thier hats indoors. That's basic ettiquete. Does anyone follow it, NO not very often. The older gentleman probably was offended because this (removing hat) was the norm when he was a young man not the exception. Mcdonalds, hey keep the hat on, a sit down resturant with menus and waiters, yeah that's probably nice enough to count. However I'm from a state with lots of cowboys, older men always remove them indoors, younger men I see wearing them more and more often.
