Can you 'walk in' to the Dolphin and get the Teacher rate?

We are driving to WDW from Indiana. I am not sure if we will be there by Saturday night. If we do get there by Saturday night, is it possible to get the 'teacher' rate by walking in to the Dolphin? Or do you need to do this in advance?
Thanks!

There are a limited number of rooms held for the Teacher's/Nurse/Gov't rate and they tend to sell out. I booked a year ahead and then had to change my week due to my college changing the Spring Break week. This was still 10 months in advance but the week I wanted to switch to was sold out. I had to call back numerous times before I got the switch made due to cancellations. It won't hurt to ask, but don't count on it.

I doubt you could get the teacher rate as a walk in. I would take the phone number with you and call from the road. You might want to take some numbers of other resorts where you want to stay as well. I've heard the WDW resorts only offer rack rates to walk-ins but if you call and talk to a CM, they might give you a good rate on room that's sitting empty. Another possibility is one of the DTD hotels. They often have good rates.

you have to book pretty far ahead to get the discounted rates. They only have a limited number of rooms available at a discount.

DJ- If you do need to grab something when you get there, we spent one nite at the Hampton Inn Maingate West - rooms were nice and big and had a great breakfast included in the morning. Very clean and comfortable. We had a good AAA rate or maybe even a rate from when they advertised on these boards. You might want to check with them and see if you could put a 6 pm hold on it. If so, then you could call from the road and guarantee with a credit card if you knew you could make it by that night but not by 6 pm. It's just west of Disney property on the north side of 192 on a street behind Bob Evans. Very close to the entry gates on the south side of the property.

We stayed at the Swan a few weeks ago on the nurse rate and decided to extend our stay. They happily gave me the nurse rate at the front desk even though I did not expect it. I would give it a try, it never hurts to ask:)

Thanks everyone! I have talked DH into taking 1/2 day off on Friday so we can get a better start on our drive, so I think we can make it by Saturday night. I am going to talk to him more and see if he thinks it would be alright to book at the Dolphin. We have never stayed there, and it would be nice to give it a try.

The Dolphin is wonderful. You will love the location. I would call now to see if you can get the teacher rate. If you can't, keep trying or go through Dreams Unlimited. People often call back many times before they can get the rate.

I had also heard that the discounted rate rooms sold out fast. I was able to book for mid-July in September, but even then one of my days was not available. The Dolphin kindly extended my discounted rate to that day, however. I already love the Dolphin!
