Can you walk from AKL to AK?

I am thinking of running in the Minnie Marathon in May and staying at AKL. The race begins at AK. Disney transportation won't be running early enough to get the runners to AK, you are on your own. Most runners will have to take a cab. So my question is, can you walk fro AKL to AK? If so, how long does it take to walk there. Also, how hard will be to schedule a cab?

are you sure about no WDW transportation.

since this is a WDW event - would really expect WDW transportation.

there is not a path between AKL and AK - if that is what you are looking for - then no.

if you go in the back way (like the buses) or the front way like the cars - both are pretty busy areas for cars and not safe.

No you can't walk but on the other hand a cab will be very easy to schedule.

They are often right there or right out of sight and a bellman or valet can help you get one.

You can walk from the Animal Kingdom Lodge to the Animal Kingdom. Just make sure your life insurance policy is paid in full and I'm named as beneficary. That whole area is really congested as it's the "back entrance" and lots of Cast Members use it to get to work. There are no sidewalks and you would have to cross Osceola Parkway.

Getting a cab is no big deal. The bell service will help you. Although I would check with the front desk to see if any other form of transportation is available.

There was special transportation for the January full marathon that took runners from all resorts to the start at Epcot. I'd be very surprised if they didn't do that for the Minnie too.

1) Busses start to run very early.
2) I think the first are 3:00am.
3) Don't worry about WDW transport to the warm-up area.
4) Marathons bring in big money, and they would not strand participants.
5) And, no, you can't walk/run from AKL to AK (no paths or sidewalks).

NOTE: For the full marathon, the buses start at 2:00am.

I wish there was a walk way-- wouldn't it be cool if they had a tunnel under the street?

I stayed at a hotel once that had an underground walkway to another part of the hotel grounds so you didn't have to cross a busy intersection.

It's a little more complicated than that. While the Animal Kingdom Lodge looks very close to the Animal kingdom, it really is a long walking distance unless you cut through the savannah at the Lodge and walk through the bus drop off area at the park. It's kind of like when the school system said that we lived within walking distance of the high school. We did - as the crow flies. But our son had to walk the opposite way from the school to get out of our development then, across and over a highway and then beyond the school to actually get to it.

Disney did put the sidewalk under the busy Buena Vista Drive for the walkway from the Boardwalk to the Hollywood Studios.
