Can you use a crockpot in room?

I understand that times are tough and that everyone is looking for ways to cut costs, but really folks……you’re on vacation. I have never been able to wrap my head around people staying in a regular hotel (not a condo or mini-suite with a small kitchen) and expect that they’re going to “cook” meals in their room.

Postpone the trip for a few months and save the extra $$$ for food. Enjoy your time with your family and splurge a little!

AGREE AGREE AGREE!!!! - I want to go on vacation to get away from the daily chores of cooking and cleaning etc! I dont want to be in line at splash Mtn worring about my roast in the CP and if the housekeeping turned it off... :confused3 I am happy to see its just me - but if you cant afford to eat on vacation then in my opininon you cant afford to go on vacation - wait a month and save a little more.

If you use your crockpot in your bedroom at home, bring it along to use in the hotel room. If you use it in your kitchen at home, you won't have a kitchen in your hotel room unless your room does have a kitchen or kitchenette like DVC resorts, Ft Wilderness Cabins or All Stars Family Suites, so leave it at home.

:thumbsup2

Not being snarky but in a small hotel room, how the heck do you serve a meal. Wouldn't that mean you also have to bring a bunch of disposable plates, utensils and cups? How the heck are you washing food, cutting etc etc or is every thing pretty much processed food?

I'm just trying to imagine cooking even with a crock pot in the tiny space and trying to clean up in the bathroom sink. How do you clean the crockpot? In the tub?

Okay. I understand that some people don't think it's a vacation if they are doing cooking and clean up. But I actually like to cook. As long as I have a kitchen to do it in. I wouldn't want to spend a week trying to make meals in a makeshift kitchen in a value resort room.

We spend two weeks at the beach every summer. I cook almost every meal. We certainly could afford to eat out but I prefer to spend our money elsewhere. I think that the restaurant food in tourist areas is overpriced and poorly prepared. Why should I spend $$$$ on food that is just passable when I can spend way less and have it made exactly the way my family likes it?

OTOH, there is no way that I'm scrubbing bathrooms or dusting furniture on vacation! So we pay extra to have housekeeping come in and clean the nasty sand in the middle of our stay. Everyone has their priorities and preferences. I don't think it's right to tell someone that they shouldn't go on a vacation just because it's not how your would want to take yours.

So true for me too, but, again, everyone is different and have different priorities.

I am in complete agreement with everything you wrote. Are you my long lost sister?

I agree. We always pack snack type foods and fast breakfast foods (ie:bagels, poptarts, breakfast bars), but other than that, I don't really want to be bothered with cooking. We usually stay offsite in a condo and even then, we RARELY cook a meal. I hate the hassle at home, never mind when I'm on vacation! :lmao:

Just take a microwave and if you travel a lot with your car then you may consider investing in a thermoelectric cooler. We have two we take with us and they do quite well. They have no problems keeping cold cuts, frozen dinners (they don't stay frozen), vegetables and so on cold with no ice. We loathe eating out so eating in is the preferred option.

The crock pot is likely a no go since it is something that heats up...

I read through all the of the posts and decided against taking crockpot. I was going to take it because we are eating an expensive disney meal everyday we are at Disney. Going to be there 7-8 days. First I have a soy allergy (and everything has soy protein in it) and after awhile my body gets sick of eating out. I don't really want to barf a $100 dinner up. Instead we are going to do sandwiches and rice crackers &cheese things. Also salad with chicken in it. Since I can't eat granola bars or pop tarts and most cereals, just thinking about what to for breakfast.

Note to posters, this is an old thread and a hot topic... Let it die a quiet death!

Ditto. Beyond "easy" foods like cereal, breakfast bars, donuts, fruit, and bevereges (especially the "adult" kind! ;) ), I've never understood cooking/eating in your room while on vacation. Eveyone likes to save money, but for me I'd rather save in other areas, or save up more $$$ and just budget a higher amount for the trip.

Cerel w/milk, a piece of fruit, and some cofee/juice before hitting the parks in the morning is about as muck "cooking" as I want to do on vacation!

Here are some things we have cooked in the microwave in the food court at Pop.

bacon, scrambled eggs, weiners, beans, chili, frozen dinners, hot dogs, canned veggies, and canned stew.

Just take a walk down your supermarket aisle, and you will get some good ideas of what your family likes heated up in the microwave.

On a side note, while at Pop, you can buy a loaf of bread at the counter in the food court where they sell the pizza. It costs about $.10 more than what Walmart charges. They have a choice of white or brown bread. It's not listed, but just ask for it and they will go behind and get you a loaf.
