Can you upgrade a kid ticket into an adult one?

We have an extra kid ticket that we have never used will US/IOA Let us upgrade it to an adult ticket?

You can upgrade to an adult ticket for around $10 if it is a regular child's ticket. If it is a free child's ticket, you can't upgrade it.

when I was in Guest Services a couple of weeks ago there was a family trying to upgrade one of the free kid's tickets from this year's promotion and they wouldn't let them. if it's been paid for, I tend to believe there's a way to upgrade, but I may be mistaken.
