Can you turn a cartwheel?

Learned to do cartwheels when I was around 10 or 11. Am now 47 and tried to show my niece how to do one. BIG MISTAKE,oh how it hurt, couldn't believe it would hurt that bad just trying to do one little ole cartwheel. My advice to anyone who hasn't done one in a while DON'T. Niece can learn on her own.

I learned to do cartwheels when I was about 6. I could do a regular cartwheel, a one-handed cartwheel, and a round off. When I was 10 my friend tried to teach me to do one with NO hands, but I never even came close. Her sister was an acrobatics instructor but I still never got the hang of it, even with her help.

Years ago I showed the little girl I used to nanny how to do one, so I still can, (or I could about 11 years ago!) WARNING: If you did cartwheels when you were little and think it is no big deal to do one now please understand that it IS different! It was very strange to be upside down after so many years of NOT doing cartwheels. The only reason I did one for my little charge was because her dad did one first and I was not about to be bested by him! ;)

An observation another mom shared with me is that she thinks women's equilibrium changes after you have a baby. I used to be able to swing on playground swings but now they make me queasy, along with rides that spin. This plays into the fact that if you have not done a cartwheel in a long time and have had children in the interim you should be very careful!

I am 40ish  and can still do a perfect cartwheel. I can also still do a split, front and back walkovers and a few others. I learned as a toddler and did dance and acrobatics until I was 16. Its like riding a bike, you never lose it.

I've never been able to do one. Tragically clumsy, and always assuming the rest of the world's purpose is to make fun of me. :worried:

I learned to do one at about age 6. I actually have some slight physical disabilities, so it took me a LOT of determination to learn to do one, but by the time I was in high school, I actually made the competetive gymnastic team at our local YMCA.

My son recently has wanted to learn how to do cartwheels, etc, and so I was helping him out in the yard, and discovered at age 38, I can actually still do a cartwheel and a few other things. :teeth:

This was a few months ago:

Haha...thanks for sharing! I'm so jealous. My legs never make it that far into the air!

I'm like one of those little kids who puts her hands on the ground then hops from one side to another and says "look I can do a cartwheel!" :rotfl2:

Practice, practice, practice...

I used to be able to do a perfect cartwheel. I probably still can, but the last time I did one, probably 3-4 years ago, my elbows hurt for days. At nearly 38 I guess I've given them up. Sigh. I love doing cartwheels!

I teach gymnastics so maybe I can help. Say hand hand foot foot while you do it. You have to tell your body what to do. Also turn your second hand in to face your first. So first hand turns out second hand looks at it. This will turn your body so that you can land. Also strech it out, cartwheels are big. And yes I can still do a cartwheel, I can even do one on the beam.

I used to be able to. Now I'm quite sure I'd break something. Or many somethings.

Anne

Never could. The thought of me attempting one now is laughable!
