DH and I will be staying at FW toward the end of July. He is going to be in a seminar 2 days while we are there and Other than visiting parks I am trying to find something to do. We always stay at FW, DH's fav, but I would like to see the other resorts and see if the rooms are spacious enough for us and our kids(we have 3 , but usually carry 4 or 5). Has anyone done this or know if this can be done? Thanks for any help!

It CAN be done, but it is difficult. It requires that there be an empty hotel room that is ready to be shown. It requires a CM to not be busy and to be able to take you there to show it. This is not always possible.

I work at a resort and we ocassionally show a room. But usually it is to someone who has a specific request, like booking a large group, or a honeymoon, or something else specific. I can't remember us taking someone to see a room "just because" they want to see one. The truth is most of the time we don't have a CM just standing around doing nothing who can go show a room. Even most of the special requests are arranged ahead of time.

With 4-5 kids and 2 adults, you can't stay in regular resort rooms anyway. Check the occupancy limits before you waste your time and the CM's.

I do remember that last year, while we were staying at OKW in a studio, we called the front desk and asked to see a 2 BR for a future (Now it's tomorrow) trip. They were very nice, came and picked us up and took us to tour one. But like I said, we were already staying at OKW, but in a different size.

Thanks for the replies! I apologize if I wasted anyones time!!!!

You certainly didn't waste anyone's time!:D

We have asked to see a room at three resorts and each time were able to do so. At the AKL a gracious CM at checkin offered to show us one when another CM was turning me down. This was in January 2002 and there were 3 CMs at the front desk and no one trying to check in so they were not busy.

At the GF they were not so friendly about it...again not busy...but did give us a map of the resort and circled the buildings that had accessible rooms which is what we wanted to see there. They suggested we look for a housekeeper to show us a room which is what we did. Couldn't show us an accessible room as it was occupied but showed us an empty room. This was several years ago.

Lots of years ago when we decided we needed to start to get accessible rooms for our daughter, she and I stopped by the Polynesian desk where we were staying and asked about the accessible rooms but didn't ask to see one. They sent a lady right out to show us one and it turned out she had been a special ed teacher. She was wonderful.

If they're busy obviously they won't be able to accomodate you but it is in the resort's best interest to encourage people to stay and if seeing a room convinces you that the resort will work for your family then it helps both parties.

All the deluxe resorts except AKL and WL will sleep five if you ever go with just your own family.

Incidentally we did choose to stay at the GF twice since we saw the room and AKL once so far....with many Polynesian trips in between.:D

Thank you so very much Simba'sMom and BCV23. I appreciate your posts!
I think I may ask to see a room after all!!!!!

Have a great Memorial Day!

FTWFAN, I remember staying at the GF years ago and asking the Front Desk folks if they had any photos of the rooms/suites. A CM pulled out a book (a binder, really) that contained photos. I was very happy to be able to leaf through it.

I don't know whether or not the GF still has a "resort room" book, or even if any of the other WDW resorts have a similar book, but you could always ask.

The Polynesian also has a book with a photo of a standard room and several photos of the suites. These photos are 8X10 size. Showing the photos is fairly easy even when the resort is very busy.
