Can you tell me about TVP?

Does the Bob's red mill TVP have MSG in it?

I can't be 100% sure but I'd say no. Bob's food products are usually all organic and natural ingreduents, that's why I like them. I am vegetarian but I don't buy TVP. I substitute with , mushrooms, veggies, beens, lentlis, barley, rice, bulgur ect. Alot of the products I buy have agave nectar in the ingredients, is there a reason I should be avoiding this, I would really like to know, thanks.

I can't tolerate agave nectar. I have Crones disease, and so I'm on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. For those who can tolerate it, i'm sure it's fine, but the carbohydrate molecule in it bothers me. I use honey instead.

As someone getting their degree in nutrition - I personally would avoid agave nectar unless you are diabetic. It is pushed as a "good sweetener" because it is low on the glycemic index, therefore, diabetics can consume it without the complications they would have when using other sweeteners. But agave is VERY processed! :confused3 I always suggest to people to try to keep their diet as natural and unprocessed as possible. Many professionals in the food world are actually comparing it to high fructose corn syrup - which I wont touch or allow my child to touch with a 10 ft pole!

Here is a link to one person's views on it and it gives a lot of good information

Personally, I would suggest using honey (local is always best!) or maple syrup (make sure it's real, not maple flavored high fructose corn syrup!) They are much better for you and your family.

Do you have a Whole Foods nearby? I know they carry TVP. I use Morningstar Farms Crumbles in place of ground beef.
