Can you take outside food on planes?

I have not flown for years. We always drive to Disney but this time we are flying. Can you take snacks through security and on the plane? I assume they still do not allow water bottles but what about gum, package of crackers, candies, etc.

Yes, you can take your own food just be careful of the liquid rules. For instance mayo on your sandwich is fine but not a jar of it. No yogurt etc but sandwiches, chips cookies etc are fine. Once you are through security you can buy sodas, water bottles, etc and take those on the plane.

Yes, you can bring in outside food! Just make sure it is either really sloppy or really stinky to keep your neighbors on the plane from getting too friendly.

The last time we flew from Toronto - Orlando my Mom purchased a Pita the day before and brought it onto the flight without any problems.

I have bought home fajitas to my husband on my was back from TX before and they didn't say anything about it at security. I did make sure to put all of the fixins in containers so the people on the plane didn't have to smell them the whole plane ride though. I had fajita meat, veggies, tortillas, beans, etc but I did leave the salsa and sour cream at my parent's house... I didn't know if they would be considered liquids. If only you could find good Tex-mex in Virginia, lol.

I also had a friend who brought an entire pizza from a local pizza place on the plane so she could take it back home to her sister. She said she got a few weird looks from people but no one said she couldn't bring it.

I was wondering about this too. I wanted to make sanchwiches and fruit snacks. I guess juice boxes would fall into the liquids categories. When we flew from MCO last time, they let me take my cranberry juice. She had to open and tested it, but they let me go through. It was a 16oz.

They let you take a 16 oz container of liquid through security? Or you bought it once through security and they let you on the plane. If it's the former, you got MAJORLY lucky. It's not supposed to happen.



And it's so funny b/c this thread was made the day after hubby took a flight where his bottle of water, which he got from the United fancy-pants lounge (he'd been upgraded to 1st class so he got to hang out there that day), was NOT allowed on the plane. They had secondary security checks at the gate, and he was told he had to leave it.

Now, this was coming from Peru, but still, he's been allowed to carry water onto the plane, after buying it in the airport, all over the world, but not on that day on that flight, for whatever reason!

I asked about Krispy Kremes one time & they told me if I could get them all past the TSA agents I could take them with me, but they didn't think I would get them past them.................

Here is the TSA page discussing the rules about liquids that can go through security and onto a plane* in your carry-on bag.

Note that "3 ounces" is actually 3.4 ounces, because it's based on 100ml. But 3-1-1 just sounds cuter than 3.4-1-1.han



*meaning...the only liquids in containers larger than 3.4 ounces allowed on the plane are liquids you get once you are *past* security. [Except for in my husband's case coming home from Lima, LOL. Why does my family get all the weird exceptions? ]

Yeah I'm kinda surprised to read that too.
We've never been allowed to bring ANY liquid thru security- even if it's bottled water that has been unopened. And also one time we had unopened cans of soda from our room (hyatt mco) and they took them from us out of our carryons and tossed them in the trash right there.

they allow food and snacks, and I imagine that happens a LOT with so many kids/babies travelling- but liquids (aka drinks) doesn't usually happen... usually not allowed. Nothing over 3.4oz/100ml including all liquids such as shampoo/etc.

You must be confused. There is NO way you were able to take a 16 oz container of cranberry juice through a security checkpoint if you flew after the 311 rule was implemented.

We always bring food with us especially if the flight is during lunch or dinner time.Flying home this last time we brought on board 2 very large hoagies/subs/heros/grinders/wedges however anyone says it on our flight because it was during lunch and between us 4 we finished all of it.I did feel kind of bad for the kids (teenagers) across from us as they watched....actually drooled while we ate.Hey next time tell your mom to be prepared...

Absolutely no issues with food. Just flew from MCO to SJC last week with a Subway foot long tuna sub with all the fixins for the flight (Sorry US Air, didn't wish to pay $8 for a snack pack) . Walked through security with no issues.

I wonder if the cranberry juice poster had a small child with her? TSA will allow you to bring a reasonable supply of liquid for a baby over the 3.4 ounces, and the rules seem to be pretty nebulous about exactly what is reasonable and exactly what constitutes a baby. I brought 6 12 ounce bottles of water with his dry formula mix through security when DS was a baby without a problem... or maybe she just got really lucky and the TSA didn't notice...

We've done this! We don't have Krispy Kreme in our area, so when we're in Orlando we get our fill. We got a dozen at the airport and took them through security. We got a lot of good-natured teasing about taking our donuts! The TSA agents were really funny about it!

I plan on packing snacks and all when we go if we decide to fly. It is still up in the air
We were going to drive but it may not save that much money, and will tack on two days!

I noticed on a couple of threads people pack water/soda into their check in luggage. Have many of you done this? I was thinking of doing it, with some bottles and put them in a lock'n'lock container so that if they spilled, they would be contained.
We would probably only need 12 since we are only going to 4 nights/5 days.
