Can you swap-out ADRs without a fee?

HI. I wasn't sure how to title this thread, but I was wondering if Disney will let you change your mind about an ADR without charging the fee in the following situation. Last spring while at the Studios, around 4pm we realized that we weren't going to be hungry enough to keep our 5:30 ADR. We went to guest services and they were able to find an ADR at a different Disney restaurant at a much better time for us (9pm- it was a really out-of-whack day). Does anyone know if doing this without being charged the no-show fee is possible anymore? I know I can't log on or call on the day of the ADR and cancel it, then rebook elsewhere, without a fee, but I was wondering if a "swap-out" of ADRs could be handled through guest services without the cancellation fee being charged.

Pretty sure you'd be charged now.

2 weeks ago I wanted to change my 8:00p. Kona reservation to a 6:00p Cali Grill reservation I found while searching the website while at the pool that afternoon. (We were planning on a longer park day and thought late dinner at Kona would be good. But child crankiness dictated an afternoon pool session instead. Lol). I tried to change thinking hey I'm going to spend way more at Cali Grill than Kona - but no. I'd have had to pay the fee to change.

You will be charged as you did not cancel the original reservation within the required time. You can't "swap" reservations. You have to cancel and rebook, thus you are subject to the cancellation rules.

Hmmm… that's what I was afraid of. Just a little more structure, a little less spontaneity in my Disney trip. I might re-think making ADRs and just dine offsite. We'll have a car, and there are wonderful restaurants in Orlando that are far more affordable (and often with better food) than the Disney restaurants. I'll have to think about this some more.

No swapping ADRs. You have to cancel one to make a new one. And if you cancel the same day, you get charged.
