I was wondering if you can make any substitutes from the sides menu at LC? Last year I think I subbed the cream cheese mashed potatoes for the wild mushroom risotto with the filet. When looking at the menu tonight I saw the list of sides and was wondering if I could switch for any of the available sides. They are all priced at 4.49 so the value would be the same.
I was particularly wondering about the onion rings, or the oven roasted mushrooms or the mac and cheese. Has anyone had these sides? Are they awesome at all or just average?

Thanks for any replys! :)

I am not sure if you can with anything, but they let me get the mashed potatoes instead of the yukon ones that came with my meal. It won't hurt to ask.

My family has a lot of picky eaters, and we usually travel with the DDP. We have subbed just about everything on that menu, as far as sides go. My mom even got a salad subbed in with her steak. It might depend on your CM/waiter though, but it never hurts to ask. :)

It's unlikely you'll be able to choose a substitute from the "sides" menu. They ARE side (additional) orders at extra cost.

The reason you can substitute the cream cheese mashed potatoes for the risotto is, that item already accompanies at least one entree as a regular menu selection.

As the previous poster said, from the reports we've had here, you may substitute the side dish accompanying your entree for something that is served as a side with another entree. They won't let you substitute your side dish with something from the sides menu that is NOT served as a side with another entree (like the asparagus). It's possible though that they might permit it regarding a food allergy or medical condition, but word is this is the policy at Le Cellier regarding food preferences.

If you've ordered from the fixed-price Chef's Favorites menu, you may not make any substitutions at all, not even the sides.

This was our recent experience also in that we couldn't substitute the mac & cheese because it's only available as a separate side order and is not listed as being served with any of the entrees.

Well, this definitely makes sense! I'll keep this in mind. I'll probably sub the mashed potatoes, the wild rice is just 'too wild' tasting for me, lol!

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to post a response, I appreciate it! :goodvibes

I subbed the Yukon Potato Gratin for the mashed potatoes with my coffee steak. It was no problem. When the dish came out, the mashed potatoes were still there and I was brought the gratin on the side, no extra charge.

My daughter was not allowed to sub the mashed potatoes with the asparagras during our last visit. She doesn't eat carbs and wanted the veggie, they told her no and she had to purchase them as a side order and left the potatoes to throw away -- which was a waste. Then we had lunch and she got the grilled burger and she asked for a small salad instead of fries and again they would not sub, so she gave the fries to someone at our table and ordered the salad as a side item. (That girl cost me alot of money.)

Also that happened to me during a previous trip. I too did not want the potatoes and asked for a vegtable and told no. But I told them not to bring the potatoes, just the filet (you can imagine that huge bowl with a tiny filet in it). But to my surprise they brought me the asparagras anyhow after telling me they wouldn't.

I find most restraurants will let you sub, but LeCellier is the one where we have the most trouble.
