Can you still choose to stay at VWL?

Next year we are planning on doing a split stay for 9 days. The only way we can do it breaking down the points is the stay in a studio for 3 nights at VWL . We are a family of 5 so we need the studio that sleeps 5. We plan on then switching to a 2br BCV, BWV or AKV Savanna for 7 of us once my inlaws arrive. . I understand the resort will be a mess but this is the only way to work out the numbers....

IMO Disney is expecting an active noisy construction zone so they are taking a pro-active position to reduce guest complaints. I think that you can still book there just be prepared for the construction.

Agreed. Hopefully the Poly mess will teach DVC to communicate better than the Hotel side of the business did and to close units impacted. While guest being impacted (until quiet pool construction) were Cash guests the lack of accurate information and delays further complicated things. During the Construction I had the opportunity to stop at the Poly in the Fall/Winter/and stay in a DVC this Summer. The construction over the Fall and Winter varied so much, sometimes changing dramatically day by day that it would be hard for me to recommend to anyone to stay during construction.

If doing a split stay I would look at expanding the other part of the stay, and or look at other resorts with similar points that have studios that sleep 5. Best of Luck.

I also agree with this. I also think that any new reservations will not receive the "perks" that existing reservations received. I believe that the construction should not be a great distraction if you stay on the "bus stop side" of the villas.

No Im not looking for any perks...it is the amt of points that im looking at.. It is the lowest of the 5 bedroom studios..besided BWV standard which we all know is tough to get.. As long as I can sit in the main lobby and eat at Whispering Canyon... Im good. It is only Thurs-Sunday. We will be at the parks most of the day anyways and plan on using path to Ft. Wilderness. Is that going to be effected? I know when other pools are being refurbished they allow you to use other pools. Will this be the case here?

Is the Wilderness Lodge itself part of the construction zone? I had asked if thr lobby of WL will be opened since we are going in December, and I want to enjoy the beauty of the resort. If it is opened, but noisy, that would definitely be a bummer.

have they done OKW yet - it generally goes for less points than VWL and it is close to Disney Spring (DD) - so if anytime you were planning on going to DS this would be the place.

or AKV standard view - which I think is easy to get????

The main paved path between WL and FW should still be open throughout the construction. There are also the boats which bounce around Bay Lake between WL, FW and Contemporary Resort.

The main pool will be open the entire time...no construction work there. I don't anticipate them allowing anyone to use other restricted pools for the closure of the quiet pool. I've never heard of that happening before.

WL is part of the construction, but it shouldn't affect the lobbies or restaurants. The construction at WL should be only in the rooms being converted to DVC. By most accounts, those are the ones on the South wing nearest to VWL.

BWV studios are going to sleep 5 after the refurb. I don't know when they will be done, though. You can already book 5 in a garden/pool view at BWV. Some have a small daybed. You are not guarnanteed to get one, but they allow 5 on the reservation.

Those would be great choices but we need the studios that sleep 5. Kinda limited..BWV, VWL, POLY and VGF

Just booked for a couple of days after Easter 2016. So they are taking bookings (I had heard somewhere that they were not taking new bookings). We might try for another resort when the 7 month window opens. We were hoping they might decrease the point costs during construction anyway (maybe make it Adventure Season all year long!). I guess no such luck. It was a great resort before the renovation...I know it will be even better once we are through this.

I agree! We love this resort. It has always been our favorite.. Stayed on the lodge side but never DVC. A few days shouldnt be too bad. I figured book next trip because after the refurb it might be tough to get in!

They can't change the point cost unless they reduce the points that they allow owners to use during the time of construction- they are already probably having to balance out the construction with using developers points at other resorts to cover the rooms that won't be able to be occupied at any time (which is probably more than the developers inventory at VWL alone). They would have to declare units unavailable for a period of time and all of those unit owners would lose their points for the given year of that- I don't think taking units out of service due to construction as opposed to a natural disaster would even be legal but that would be the only way to reduce points in the other units during that time.
