I've never seen anything about a hotel or overnighting. is it just a day island?

hummm note to Disney - Might be worth something to Disney Fans to have a resort on the Island.

Mind you I dont know how big the island is so it might not be big enough - those from Toronto - is the island the size or bigger then Centre Island? actually Ctr Island is pretty big - it accomodates about 200 houses, a couple of beaches, some kind of petting zoo, kids fun area, water park, so maybe if Castaway is a little bigger they could put a resort on there and we could book a 14 day cruise - 10 at sea/islands 3 at Castaway Island 1 at sea then port

Sea planes work too :thumbsup2

Only people who stay on the island are some CM's who work there. I don't think Disney will ever build a resort on the island due to the bugs that invade the place at dusk!

No you don't stay at Castaway Cay. It's just a bunch of buildings for the day time amusement.

However, we were lucky enough to stay overnight at the island. It was raining on the day we were scheduled to arrive on the island and our next day was a at sea day for the 4 day cruise. The captain said we'd return back to the island the next day. So that night we went out to sea to do the pirate party and fireworks and then returned back to the island during the night. We we awoke, we were already back at the island. So we did get to sleep on the island. :rotfl:

Hi,

It is almost certainly smaller than Centre Island. I would say that size wise - the main area for the Family Beach, Cookies Grill, souvenir shop and post office is rougly equivalent to the day area at Centre Island where the merry-go-round, the petting zoo and restaurants are on Centre Island.

WOW - much smaller then i had imagened it would be.

maybe Disney should take over Centre Island hehehe

I looked it up. Centre island is only 600 acres.
Castaway Cay is 1000 acres, so nearly twice as big.
HOWEVER, only a very small portion of Castaway Cay is developed.

Infrastructure is also a huge problem. CC gets all its power from the ship - and you'll notice it isn't a very power intensive place - no buildings with air conditioning - enough power to run the cash machines, the bars and Cookies and that's about it. It has to make its own water and do its own water processing.

:confused3 i thought the planning video said it had 3 huge generators (or something like that)

Even if it were feasible, why would Disney put a resort on CC? The whole point is a private island for cruisers to enjoy the day without the crowds. If you add resort guests to the mix, I can't see it being different than stopping at any other port's crowded beaches.

Not true. The crew facilities include powered washing machines.

The only connection to the ship is a Fiber Optic line which is used for the sole purpose of getting those KTTW's swipes on your stateroom account.

I think they could put a DVC resort there that would be pretty popular. That way they could still control the crowds. If they feel they can make a profit on it I wouldn't put it past them. Heck I'd probably stay there.

yes, then disney could start it's own airlines and land on the "retired" landing strip on castaway!

right - put a dvc resort there and then think of the maintnance fees after a few hurricanes slap them at 2 feet above sea level. Think, people!

I say keep it "private," i.e. minimally visited/populated. Otherwise, what is special about? It's bad enough that WDW seems bent on building up every possible piece of its property these days (I cringe when I think of the west side project). Keep Castaway Cay a private paradise! :thumbsup2

You have seen CC when ship is in, not the promo stuff from Disney?:confused3

They could not add resort guests to what is already there on a CC-DCL day. It is just not big enough. The main thing I did not care for on CC were the crowds. After 7 days on the ship with all those people they seemed to double when we all hit the beaches of CC.

You can see CC very well at Google Maps -- docking area, beaches, etc. There was no ship there the day the shot was made.
Go to Florida.
Move East towards the larger two most north islands of the Bahammas,
CC is near the southen tip of the more eastern island off the west side:confused3
Did that make ANY sense?

I think its a GREAT idea!

However, hurricanes could make liability CRAZY! Theres no telling who would come during hurricane season, and that would be a while without business. But who knows?

So what, you would go on a cruise and stay there until the next cruise? So you say that you would pay for two cruises and a stay on CC? Seems lika bit of wasted money there to me.
