Can you split an existing ressie for DDP reasons?

I am a DVC renter. I have rented for a late January stay at BWV (8 nights). I don't want to pay for 8 nights of DDP. We don't go to parks on our travel dates, so we get behind and have trouble catching up and getting value for the plan.

In the future I will make 3 separate ressies. A one night ressie to start, a one night ressie to finish, and a third ressie in the middle for the rest of the nights (6 nights in my case). I'd then add DDP for the middle reservation and then combine all three reservations.

However, I already reserved this 8 night stay at the BWV for January. Can I ask for my reservation to be split up into 3 separates, or will I lose my spot and have to go to the end of the line, making this a bad decision?

You can't do anything as far as your reservation is concerned- the owner of the points could choose to do this if they wanted to- as to whether or not you would lose the room- it is my understanding that they normally don't do this in such a way that one loses the room. If the person you are renting from agrees to so this then they would need to have the money to pay for the dining plan completely at the time they add it to the reservation.

Thanks rlovew. Yep, I understand the owner I'm renting from would have to do all the communication and DDP reservation. I mainly am asking for verification that my room won't be given to someone else during the transaction.

And I will take into account the hassle this is on the DVC owner. I'll price it out and make sure this will save me $$ before I ask her this request.

I may just have to wait and do this the next time I rent (or come as an owner if I get hooked on this DVC trial vacation). Thanks again.

Someone posted yesterday that there is a chance that reservations could be lost and that MS is no longer splitting existing reservations unless there is availability as back up.

If it were me, I don't think I would attempt it for this trip. They are still working out the glitches in the system (it took almost two weeks for them to change my reservation from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom).

Thanks Sandisw. After hearing your comments and thinking about it, I'll hold off this time.

But the bigger issue is that I am now interested in the regular DDP again, after writing it off as a "at best break even" program for my family's appetite. We go for 8 nights (7 days in parks). Getting to pay for 6 days of DDP and getting to use the credits on all 7 days we are in the park ... that works for us.
