My kids saw the pictures of the balcony and they immediatly asked if they could sleep out there? I hadn't thought about that, but could you? I know they have cameras everywhere, but our kids will be 12, 10, 10 and won't care. My only thought is that the bugs might be bad the first week in June. Personally, I wouldn't want to do that, but they would.

I don't know that it's officially not allowed, but I think it might be frowned upon. Also, there's really not enough room for three kdis to sleep out there, and those floors would get nighty hard.

There's not a whole lot to see at night, I'd suggest getting a good nights sleep inside and going out early the next morning.

And yes, the bugs could be an issue.

Yes, bugs and don't forget the heat and humidity. I would never be able to handle that.

But I am old. Maybe your kids are less susceptible to H&H.

Enjoy the AK.

I think I've seen that the animals are all taken in at night - they don't roam freely all night. I wouldn't think there would be any lights on the savannah area in the middle of the night. Why on earth would kids want to sleep on a bare concrete floor in the hot, buggy dark - and why would you even consider letting them? Would you keep the door open all night so you could also enjoy the humidity and the bugs in your room? Yikes!!!!!!

I'm sorry, but if I saw kids sleeping in the patio I wouldn't have very nice thoughts.

I actually think the animals do roam all night, and there is artifical moonlight, although perhaps it's turned off at a certain hour. I know we came back from PI one night around 1 am, and saw a few zebras just outside our balcony.

I think it would be fine to let the kids sleep out there. I saw far worse things happening on balconies at AKL (men and women in their underwear!). maybe let them "camp out" and bring them in at some point?

The balconies aren't very big and the floors are concrete. That being said, I would think that there would be room for a couple of them and we did see animals at 2-3 a.m. when we were up with the baby. I don't see where it would be a big deal for them to bunk up out there in a sleeping bag at least for a few hours. I am guessing that the floor would get pretty hard and they would want to come in. As far as bugs and heat, if they camp in the summer at home it wouldn't be that much different. I don't think people on other balconies would even notice them.

The animals are out all night. We didn't sleep on the balcony but we did leave the sliding doors open while we slept. Some of the animals ( I belive they were some kind of bird, but can't remember exactly) are VERY loud at night. It's also fairly bright with the artificial moonlight. But if they can sleep with noise, lights and hard concrete, why not. It's not every night you get to sleep on the savanah :)

LOl, sounds like something DH might want to do...bring his camping mat and sleeping bag...paying for a Deluxe Savannah so he could sleep on concrete! :rotfl:

Even if they tried it, I wonder that they wouldn't crawl back in to sleep in a nice comfy bed.;) Let us know if they do it, though.:)

My boys LOVE to sleep in the strangest, most uncomfortable places...their treehouse, the living room floor, they've even asked to sleep in the van before (they haven't gotten me to agree to that one yet, lol) . Kids look at sleeping in different places more as an adventure, instead of thinking in terms of comfort. :earboy2:

It's vacation...and...they're kids. If they want to sleep on the balcony, let 'em sleep on the balcony!

The animals are out at night, and there's lighting.

There are security cameras on the savannah that can view the balconies. If it's against the rules you might find out pretty quickly.

sure, let 'em sleep on the balcony. Just leave the sliding door unlocked so when they get sweaty, hot and bug-eaten then can come back inside. :cool1:

A friend's sister did it and ended up with a bunch of bites. I think it was June.

Maybe if they use this...

This Bug Proof Ghillie Suit would better suit the theme of the resort:

Truly..with the ever-present threat of the very serious WEST NILE VIRUS...I would never encourage anyone to sleep outside overnight ANYWHERE, especially in Florida. :sad2:

If they went out into the resort in that ghillie suit, there'd be a new thread about Bigfoot sightings at WDW.

I'm a mosquito and biting fly magnet. I got the worst bite ever at akl on the balcony. It was one of those horried flies.

:wave2: I believe.

Some, (maybe all) of the balconies are rather solid, so sleeping on the balcony would give you a view of the back side of the balcony wall. But, if you leave the curtains open and lay on the bed (move your pillow to the foot of the bed), you should be able to see out a bit better. Just make sure the curtains are closed when you change clothes ( or do that in the bathroom). Then you are cool, bugfree and comfortable.

There's really only room out there for a small table and 2 chairs so even if they could deal with the hard surface, I don't know that there would be enough room for 3 kids that age.

Most kids can sleep anywhere. It's the bugs that will drive them back inside.
