Can you skip it?

We've never been on a Disney cruise before, but as we look into planning one, a question has come up. We understand that when you board, there is an introduction where each family boarding is announced to the other passengers. Is this mandatory or can you skip the intro if you desire? Some potential members of my party may not want to take part in something like this - although I'm good with it, personally!

Any insight is appreciated!

I'm sure you can skip it. Just let them know before you board.
It's really not even a big deal actually. The general population of the ship is not paying any attention. You just walk onboard & a line of cast members applauses your arrival. They just make a general 'announcement' - "The Disney Fantasy would like to welcome the Brown family."

You can give a fake name if you are worried about your name being called out.

Definitely! We have a son with Autism so we skip the boarding photo too. Just stay to the extreme right, go up the gangway, and let the CM know at the top that you don't want it, you can just slip in quietly ;)

You don't have to be announced. When you walk through the doorway into the atrium, a crew member will ask your name. You can just say "No, thanks" and walk on in.

DCL used to be more lenient about fake names. Most times they won't do it now, especially if it's suggestive, or rude, or obviously fake.

We skip the group picture at the front. Just politely say we are interested.

We were on the Fantasy 3 weeks ago. They let us be introduced as "Princess Megan and her entourage" - DD got a kick out of it and she's 14! (This was our first time traveling without our oldest.)

I actually requested not to be announced and it didn't work. I was so out of breath from pushing my husband up the gangway in his wheelchair that I needed a minute to pull myself together and they kind pounced on us for our names. I guess if I walked briskly past them I could have avoided the whole thing, but since I needed to pause and catch my breath it kept me in her sights and encouraged her to repeatedly ask for our names and not take 'No Thank You' for an asnwer. So I guess my advice would be to say no thanks and keep walking :)

You can skip the pictures and you can skip the name thing. We have 3 last names between the 3 of us, and "The ___ Family" just doesn't work for us. Not to mention the fact that there's no one waiting for us, no one cares, and it's all silly to be announced.

Might be silly to you but lots of children (and probably adults) love it. Seems to be 1 more little Disney touch. P.S. My daughter loves it.

Last year on the Fantasy they said they weren't able to do that anymore (they'd done it on previous cruises). Will see if they do it on the Magic on the fall.

To me that is a insult to say it is 'silly' to be announced. I would say most people love it.

BTW, it is only heard in the immediate lobby area ... not thru the entire ship . ..
