I posted this on the CB just now, but I wanted to post here too since I feel that this board is my "home" on the DIS.

Please, can I ask all of you to send prayers and PD for my stepmom?. After bravely seeing my Dad through his bout with Alzheimers until his death 1 1/2 yrs. ago, and a difficult move from CT to VA to be near my stepsister and her kids, she has just been diagnosed with terminal bone cancer. She has 2 broken bones, broken because they were weakened by the cancer, and a severe kidney infection. When I saw her 3 wks ago she seemed weak, but otherwise ok, and now she's in a light coma. She could have just days left, or it could drag on for months, we don't know yet. I am in total shock, as I'd hoped her move would allow her to enjoy the time she has left in relative comfort and happiness, and now, out of nowhere, this!
I just got the phone call from my step sister a couple hours ago, I don't have any more details yet. At least with my Dad he went gradually, so there was more than enough time to get used to the idea of losing him, but this is so sudden!
I'm not sure what else to say here, but I will keep you posted when I know more.

((((Nancy)))))) I'm so glad you posted here. I'm so sorry to hear about your stepmom. I wish I knew the perfect thing to say to you right now. All I can offer is some pixie dust and my concern. My grandfather died this past April and I found people on the DIS very helpful. We were very close and he died within two weeks of finding out he was ill. I found talking about it and surrounding myself with friends/family were very helpful. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers.

Dear Nancy-I'm so sorry to hear this. Your stepmother sounds like a wonderful person. It's not everyone who can be so unselfish to give the amount of care that an Alzheimer's patient requires. She must have loved your dad very much.

I hope your stepmom can be made as comfortable as possible. It's never easy to lose a parent, Nancy, and I sure feel for you. I'm sure Barry will help you through this.

Nancy: You don't know me, I'm sure, but I wanted to let you know that I am praying for you, your family, and especially your stepmom. Seeing a loved one so sick is never easy. Sending PD your way.

I don't know the words to express how sorry I am that you are going through such a hard time in your life. May God watch over you and your family, and especially your stepmom. I'll pray for you tonight.

Thank you all so much for all the prayers and PD. I think it must be working because I'm feeling a little better now knowing I have all of your support. No news yet, but I will keep you posted.

{{{{{HUGS}}}}} Nancy. I am so sorry to hear about your stepmom. She and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Many Hugs to you, Nancy, and prayers and PD for your Stepmom. I hope things become easier for all of you. Just remember that you have friends here on the boards and that you have people you can speak with.

Please take care,
Adele

nancy....many hugs out to you and your family. Seeing someone you love get so sick is a hard thing for anyone to deal with. Remember that you are not alone- you have all your friends here, your family, and God by your side. Our prayers are with you and your family.

I just want to let all of you know that my stepmom passed away this morning. She did not regain consciousness, and slipped away peacefully. She was spared the months of extreme pain she would have had to endure if she had survived, and it is a blessing that she was spared from that. My family and I want to thank all of you for all of your prayers during this difficult time. Your support is very much appreciated and has been a great source of strength to me.

I'm so sorry, Nancy! :(
I hope you can find peace in the fact that she is in a much better place now. My prayers go out to you and your family!

Nancy, I am sorry to hear the news. But as you said, her suffering is over. I hope you and your family are able to find some comfort in that. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you.

I'm so sorry nancy! You and your family are in my prayers and I'm sending tons of pixie dust.
