Can you see Bahamas Ocean Life from the ship?

We're booking our very first ever cruise (bucket list item), so I wanted to reach out to the cruise experts out there. We are getting a room with a veranda. I have a dream of being able to sit on the veranda, probably early in the morning, enjoying a glass of wine, and watch for dolphins, whales, etc. Is this a reality? What are the chances we will see ocean life from the ship?

Dolphins yes, whales only in Alaska for us. Lots of islands, and seabirds etc.

Thank you!!

Dolphins would be perfect! My husband and I have been wanting to do a cruise for as long as we've known each other. This is one of the many, many things we're looking forward to.

PS The glass of wine on the verandah also sounds rather nice.

I just started making the packing list. The first thing on it - WINE for the carry on! Now I just have to figure out the best place to get wine conveniently in Orlando. That part I haven't quite figured out yet. We'll be flying in the night before and staying somewhere (also on the to-do list).

Yes... priorities

I've seen birds, dolphins, flying fish, etc. from our verandah.

Anyone ever see wildlife out in the ocean on a cruise?

some of my sightings from ships

Dolphons riding the bow wave

Orca near Haiti

Manta Ray along side the ship

Giant Squid on the buffet

Your BEST sighting place will be at the pier in Canaveral if that's where you sail from. Commonly sighted are Dolphins, Manatees, Sea Turtles and sharks including hammerheads ... not to mention the Canaveral seashore being a prime 'birding' area with cranes, herons, ibis, woodstork, scrub jay, eagles and all sorts of others.

until it became a legal no-no the guys at the CG station in the same west basin, fed the manatees every evening ... lettuce and fresh water from the hose used for washing the boats. Today feeding them is considered harassment.

It is almost common for a cruise ship to have a dolphin escort as they leave the port

We had a verandah on the Wonder in September. Arrived early in Nassau and I woke up as we docked. Beautiful view of the harbor and sunrise. Didn't see any wildlife. About an hour later another ship pulled in next to us, so our view was gone. We were able to see some porpoises in Port Canaveral on the last day. Hope you have some luck seeing dolphins!
Enjoy your verandah and that glass of wine!

First - the last photo made my night! Thank you!

I'm new DisBoards, still learning how everything works. Thanks so much for your help! I never even thought about Manatees! That would be amazing!

Leaving Bermuda heading toward Boston we saw pods of dolphins from our balcony.
