We are staying at Contemporary and have never done rope drop before. Is the meet mickey in MK one of the things you can do rope drop for? What time would we have to get there for that?

I believe you can! According to the app, Mickey and Minnie's meet and greet at MK starts at 9 am, and the park typically opens then too - and I believe they usually let people in a bit early to wander Main Street - plus you've got early entry, so you can get in around 8:30 am. I'm not sure what the best time to arrive would be, but you could reasonably get in line around 8:30 and wait that half-hour until the meet opens at 9 if you wanted!

I assume the OP is asking whether you can meet Mickey during early entry, not just stand in line for it,

I took rope drop to mean when the park officially opens for all guests/rope drop starts - but if that's the case, no, the meet and greet only opens when the park officially opens at 9 (or whenever that might be!)

probably because I am confused myself lol… so early entry is the park opens at 8:30? So we could go on rides then?

I think we are trying to decide our best time to get to the park. We will be staying at contemporary. I was going to do our first LL for Peter Pan at whatever time we get it for at 7am and then try some sort of strategy to meet Mickey without using a lightening lane or waiting on a terribly long line.

So is early entry different than rope drop? Can we go on rides or do anything during that 30 mins prior to park opening at 9?

Lol no worries! It's a confusing system and I've been trying to understand it myself for our upcoming trip! Early entry is at 8:30 (usually 30 mins before official park open) and at that time, only select parts of the park are open - I believe it's Main Street, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland but you might want to look that up because I could be misremembering! The Disney website should also have an official list of every ride that's open at early entry! Once the park officially opens, everything else opens along with it, but rope drop/non early entry guests will also be trying to access those areas at the same time. And the Mickey meet and greet opens at 9 (or whenever the official park open is) - hope this helps!

The thread I would recommend you read is post 1 of Everything Early Thene Park Entry.

It will answer most/all of your questions plus provide additional info.

For magic kingdom for an 8:30 early entry and 9am official opening, people start arriving to the tapstiles around 7:30. All people are let in around 8:00. In the hub, there is a spot where cast members scan magic bands and phones to check in resort guests. Non resort guests are held in the hub. Resort guests wait at the “rope” towards the teacups for fantasyland and the entrance to Tomorrowland. At 8:30 the rope drops and resort guests are allowed into those two lands. At 9:00, the ropes to Adventureland and liberty square are dropped for the non resort guests. As you know, meet Mickey is on Main Street. If you get to early entry early enough, you can easily get on PP then walk back to the front of the park and catch Mickey. That line doesn’t start to build right away. However, you may want to take advantage of early entry and knock out all of fantasyland with no waits. If you want to be at the front of the rope drop pack, I suggest leaving contemporary no later than 7:30.

I would add that you should walk from the Contemporary in the morning. The monorail goes the long way around the lagoon, so walking is much faster and less crowded.
You probably already know this, but I thought it was worth mentioning! We love the convenience of CR!!

Oh for sure! We will have a stroller and chose the hotel for the walking convenience!!

You can leave the stroller open with a kid in it for the monorail. Just fyi for when you‘re traveling to EPCOT or tired later in the day and don’t want to walk anymore. ;)

Yeah we have a double and I would feel guilty taking up that much space lol. We love it because it holds so much tho haha.

There are plenty of times when it’s not crazy travel times that it won’t matter (afternoons come to mind) and it should fit. The space will just be taken up by standing adults or a stroller. I would not feel guilty. You paid extra for that perk! We saw tons of doubles and no one blinks!

Thanks that first post is helpful! What time would you recommend leaving contemporary to be able to utilize early entry?

Maybe we should try to early entry Peter Pan and then get a LL for Meet Mickey instead.
You can do that, but I don't know that you will need that LL for the meet. It's usually pretty quiet and easy to meet M&M the first hour or two. We usually plan a day where the meet is early on, and we've never needed a FP or LL. The benefit of an early meet, too, is avoiding looking like the family has spent the day sweating in a theme park in addition to the avoiding of "misguided" attitudes :-) .
