Can you return food to a Store?

A couple of years ago I was in (your Wegs actually) and asked for a pound of roast beef and a half pound of ham. She gave me a pound and a half of the ham. Because I had taken the ham from the counter and placed it in the cart before I realized it was too much, they would have had to throw it out! :confused3 So, I ended up buying a bunch of extra cold cuts so it wouldn't just get wasted.
I do love that chain and I wished Wegmans was in the south! :)

I know it's a shame that due tpo food safety guidelines if it leaves the workers possesio even if just for a few seconds we can't sell it, it gets tossed.

As for the person with the baby formula. We give refunds on it but we can't put it back for sale, it gets a damaged merchandis sticker on it and it gets sent somewhere (I assume back to the manufacturer for credit, but not sure what the laws are). We can't refund alcohol because we only have licensing to sell alcohol not buy alcohol.

They will take it back and resell it? Or just refund the money?

Mikeeee

Depends on what it is...perishable (produce, meat, deli, dairy, prepared foods) get refunded and tossed...even if it's only been 2 minutes since they bought it. Cans and items that can't be tampered with can be put back on the shelf, unless they look damaged.

I work for Wegmans too!
