I JUST bought the refurbished iPad from Apple last week & it was shipped already. I got it via this thread actually - a great deal for $317. Except now Walmart will have basically the same item, but it's new on Black Friday ($399 w/ $75 gift card).

The item I got has VERY minimal info packed with it...no return policy etc. Does anyone know if it can be returned?

Also, when I look a the iPad that will be selling on BF, it says you can choose either AT&T or Verizon for the 3G. Does that mean it will be associcated with your phone account, or that you need to set up an account of some kind? Does anyone know what the costs or fees are for that. I'm pretty sure the one I got via Apple is just Wifi. So I am trying to decide if the 3G extra is good (useful) or bad (costs a lot!).

Thanks.

Which model did you get for your refurbished deal?

The BF deal looks like it's just wifi and 16 gb, which is the bottom level.

I personally would keep the refurb deal, but I hate Black Friday.

I think it's the same one I just got. I don't mind the botom level, as it's for my 10 year old! I just hate paying practicially the same price for a refurbished item, when I could potentially have a brand new one.

I did find the policy finally, it's 14 days after receiving the product. Which stinks because that will be RIGHT before BF. And with no guarntee that I'll "GET" the BF item...I guess I'll stick with what I have and be happy.:thumbsup2

I thought the same thing, but now I am glad I got mine through Apple, as I am sure our Walmart probably only has 3 of them.

Only thing is that with the return policy, I am wondering if I should make sure it works before giving it to DS. Or should it be okay? I would hate to waste $250 because I didn't return something within the small timeframe allowed, and this is a Christmas gift.

For what its worth, The Walmart ad also states that its guarenteed to be in stock for the first hour. If you read the really small print it also states that if it goes out of stock, you will get a certificate that you will receive it delivered to your house before Christmas

This is one of 3 doorbuster items that Walmart is offering a Price Guarantee on this yr. So, as long as you purchase it during the 1hr price guarantee, even if it is not in stock, they will give you a card that guarantees you get the item before Christmas for the same Black Friday price! Now if they actually deliver on that guarantee, then I see a whole lot of people getting the Ipad 2 w/wifi for X-mas this yr as that is a really good deal for brand new w/warranty!!

Keep it, what time do you think you have to get in line to get it in the first hour and I hate walmart.

We have bought the refurbished ipad and new ones, never had a problem.

10-11pm on Thanksgiving day is whey Walmart is guaranteeing this deal. Time is not hateful, but the crowd and lines will be. Walmart reported that last year's black friday sales were highest from 10-11pm last Thanksgiving day last year.

Be happy with your refurb...good as new from everyone I have talked to.

I might be at WalMart to get the BF deals on the movies (that's the first event from 8 pm to 10 pm, nothing major electronic deals). I wonder how the lines will be?

It's always a good idea to make sure electronics work.

But it's also good to see if there's a different return/replacement policy for defective items vs just not wanting it.

Apple backs up their refurbished items -- I bought a refurb iPad 2 and it died. Took it to the Apple Store, they couldn't get it going again, so they gave me a new iPad to replace it.

Amazing service.

Bought many times from Apple Refurb with no problems at all. I'd keep the one you got and avoid Walmart.

Bear in mind that MANY times, a "refurbished" item IS brand new.

Many people assume that a refurbished item means one that was purchased, used, broke and then was repaired. Not always the case.

Any time an electronics item is purchased and the package has been opened, and then returned, it has to be sold as "refurbished". The only way it can be sold as "new" is if it is in a factory-sealed box.

Many people buy something, open it and then decide they want a different color or model, never once using what they bought. Once returned, its sold as refurbished.

For what it is worth, both my kids have purchased refurbished items from Apple and they always appeared absolutely brand new and worked perfectly.

The refurbished ipad 2 ... I bought from Apple.com earlier 2012 ... had a 2 week return policy.

I bought online and returned to Apple store.
