Can you remove days at the start or end of an existing reservation? Does the reservation stay the same or do they need to make a new reservation to do this?

The reservation number won’t change but it is essentially a new reservation on Disney’s side. That what makes shortening or adding a day to your reservation frustrating because a separate reservation must be available to do so.

I have done this before when unsure of ideal travel dates and was never told that was the case. I can't see how a new reservation should be an issue though, if the reservation they have to cancel will be freeing up the same room I am then "rebooking"?

Except it doesn’t put your existing reservation back in the pot till you cancel it. There’s a lot of “discussion” about how this system should work differently, it makes no sense to me either and is very frustrating when you have to take a day off a trip.

Ok I get it. I see. Thanks!

I just called on Monday to add a day to the beginning of our reservation. We had a reservation for Sunday the 11 but decided to get in earlier on the 10. They added it no problem without changing the existing reservation number.

this was always the case when I called, same reservation#, so I just assumed they altered it

There is always the possibility of someone grabbing the reservation you just cancelled before you have a chance to rebook it.

Adding days is much easier than deleting a day. In the past it was very easy to remove a day from your reservation, but WDW has made it more difficult (for good reasons) and now it has to be approved by guest services. I have read posts of people having no issues dropping and I have read posts of GS telling them no.

My experience: Booked a bounce back offer with "free dining". We wanted to remove 2 days from beginning of our package. Was told we could but it would be an additional $1,600 (the cost of the dining plan). We tried Guest Services same reply. Reason: the free dining promotion has expired. So, if you have it booked with a special offer, that offer must still be valid.

We just kept what we had!!!

My understanding is that if you are trying to modify a bounceback, you have to call the bounceback line. I’m not sure who you called the 1st time. And it shouldn’t matter that the FD promo has expired with a bb.
