I actually posted this on another board because I wasn't sure where to post it and then after I did I thought probably the DVC board would be the best because that's what we are and your touring styles are probably more in line to ours.
With that said  DH and I were having a discussion. We just sold our home and after all of the effort and hard work we have talked about rewarding ourselves w/ a two week Disney vacation.

Now, :rolleyes2 DH says he doesn't believe we could actually relax there. That we (read me the poster  ) would always want to be go, go, go, going. :moped:

I say no. Sure, the first week we'd be going (and be in tour mode  ) and seeing all of our favorite attractions but by the second week we'd be able to just relax.

His response was, "Yeah, but if you're not "doing" something in Disney then Disney is boring."

WHAT????????????? :confused3 :confused3

Of course, that is the most ridiculous thing I've heard!!

I suggested, sleeping in late. Actually sitting down at breakfast (instead of grabbing a biscuit and running to the parks). Going swimming at the pools (he's not a swimmer, though), reading a great book in the warm breezes on our patio or balconey. Spending time in downtown. Trying some of the great restaurants in the parks. Walking around Fort Wilderness. Or, we could plan a week in Disney and a week in Vero. :beach:

So I ask, can you relax in Disney and if so, how and what do you do?

Thanks for your time. :wave2:

We haven't yet. We have just in the past few months joined DVC and hope that the more frequent trips will allow us to stop and smell the roses a little more. Our trip in june we plan to do five days in the world followed by two at Vero Beach, so there will definately be relaxing done the last two days. We are planning an adults only trip in early December 2007 so maybe a relaxing trip then.

We visit WDW 4-5 times annually and actually relax most of the time. At least one of our trips each year is resort only. Even when we do go to the parks, it is at a relaxed pace.

So yes, it can be done! :rotfl:

we'll be "home" in just under 3 weeks and I think relaxing is definitely going to fit in...we will be visiting for 6 days and I have it arranged like so:

day 1 : arrive & spend day wandering DTD - dinner at Ragland Road
day 2 : AK all day...dinner at O'hana's
day 3 : relax all morning ( pool - read ) 4pm MK for the party! dinner at LTT
day 4 : sleep late, relax, hit the spa , pool, some shopping - dinner ? and carriage ride in the evening at POR
day 5 : Epcot AM - rest 1-4 - back to Epcot ...dinner at Rose & Crown
day 6 : DTD for last minute items ..boatride & lunch at Olivia's ...late afternoon - head for the airport!

I am going with my fiance and his Mom ( 77 ) so we felt the rest days will be much needed.... just think what I could do with 2 weeks!!!!

Michelle :wave2:

We do We usually go for 2 weeks. First day have to unwind from traveling....we got the AP with discount, so go to parks, come back to pool/hot tub back to parks or just watch fireworks or eat out when you have the AP it takes the pressure off. Like to just wander around Epcot especially Wine and Food festival time. We tune the real world out and have a great time . we sometimes just ride on the different boats. BVW or DTD or OKW or SSR. We are also going to check out Vero this trip (Oct 22-Nov8) for 3 days before off to WDW. See how that works. Carol :goodvibes

Dd & I only relax on the lazy rivers.Other then that we are on the GOGOGO.But thats just how we like it.

Now DW she sleeps in, heads to the pool some times and catches up with later. She never does EMH and we hardly ever miss it.

Oh and Disney is not boring if you are relaxing as the people watching is also the best in the world.

We were there for 6 days/5 nights. We did relax even though our stay was not long. We only went to the parks on 2 of the days! For us, FL is a huge contrast to home & we like being in the warm air & the sunshine at the pool. We always did something special on the "off" days, such as Cirque de Soleil or a special restaurant.

I do not agree with being busy on week 1 and relaxing on week 2. I say spread out the intensity. Also, you don't want a day when you're literally doing nothing. There should always be something-- like a carriage ride, or hopping to another resort to use their pool and enjoy a meal there, or a movie, or shopping-- to make each day different and special & have something to look forward to or talk about afterwards.

In Summer 2005, we used DVC points, plus cash to spend 7 nights at the Contemporary Resort. Every single afternoon was spent out by the pool, sleeping and just relaxing. One of the best vacations we have spent.

That is all we do while down there is relax. The best way to do it is to stay away from the parks or at least go when it is not crowded.

As soon as we became DVC Members we gave up being commando at the parks. We have breakfast in the room and then head out to the parks. We'll spend most of the morning at the parks then head back to the villa. We'll either chill in the room, maybe at the pool. Then back to the parks in the evening.

Sometimes we are go go go if we are meeting up with friends, but for the most part we do get to relax on our DVC vacations.

I just got back from 10 days in Florida, and that's all we did was relax. It was great! Since we became members, we never go, go, go anymore, because we'll be back next year. In fact, I refuse to go to Florida if I have more than 1 thing scheduled in a day. I didn't even visit the spa, because I didn't have the time!

Day 1--arrival, tour the resort, EAT!(we had the DDP) at Cape May,POR for carriage ride, watch "Grey's Anatomy" on TV(a requirement wherever we are)
Day 2--sleep late, go to the pool, read, go to Epcot to EAT! at Food and Wine.
Day 3--pool in am, Food and Wine eating in the PM, and fireworks.
Day4--pool early, then to Epcot for "Sweet Sundays" buffet and cooking demo with wines(fun!), wander around and people -watch until dinner at France.
Day 5--golf in am, pool in pm, Halloween party in evening, with rides(no waiting!), parade, fireworks, stayed till midnight. Fun!
Day 6--pool day, Food and Wine in evening, rented a convertible and went riding.
Day 7--breakfast at Spoodles, went resort hopping, ate at Yachtsman Steakhouse.
Day 8--pool, shopping at outlet mall, Member Wednesday meeting, dinner at Flying Fish, and back in time for "Grey's"
Day 9--went golfing, shopped at golf stores, lunch at Kona Cafe, tea party at Grand Floridian, evening at MGM.
Day 10--packed and checked in for flight home, breakfast at Yacht Club Galley, returned car to the Dolphin, read book in the lobby till lunch at Hurricane Hannah's, airport and home.

Go, go, go, at Disney is 'way' different from go, go, go anywhere (insert home here) else. There are more than one kind of relaxing; physical and mental just to name the top two. As far as mental relaxing, that's a given. As far as physical relaxing you just have to slow down a little. Maybe your DH is hinting that he's not up for a Disney vacation at this time (though that is slightly perplexing to me). Good luck with whatever you decide.

We always tell ourselves we're going to relax and we do some, but it's something we're working on. We went for 10 days this summer and I thought it would be good to stretch out the activities. Although we had things to do, I think we didn't "relax" as much as I would've liked. So, we're going at Xmas..one park and then walks, swim, if not too cold, go to the playground, minniature golf (it's too hot in June/July to do those things). we're going back in late June for another 10 days and and will only do 2 parks and then go by what we feel on the other days. It's really hard to get out of that "on the go" mode. We pretty much have to force ourselves. But I am determined to do it this time! We just have to stick to our guns! Same goes for you. Besides...you can still do things like go to the Spa, bike ride, rent a boat, horseback riding and it still be relaxing.

Have you ever cruised? That might be a nice compromise between getting your Disney fix and his need to relax.

We take it slower, but Disney isn't a relaxing vacation for us. We spent a week in Mexico without the kids last year. Get up, eat, read, lie around, swim, eat, lie around, read, eat, play cards, sleep.......In a week we made it snorkling and to Tulum, other than that, we didn't do a darn thing for a week.

I trhink one of the parts I love best about DVC is that you can relax because you know you are coming back. There is no feeling of intensity or that I will never get the chance to see something if I don't make it that trip. that being said, there are certain things we always do (wishes, Illuminations, Chef Mickeys) but we like to go at our own pace. My first trip, before I was a DVC'er, I waslike a park commando and it was too tiring for all of us. This past year we have gone twice for a total of 19 days and it was great to just relax at all the pools and go to parks for maybe a couple hours a day. We also get season passes so there is no need to feel like we have to get our moneys worth out of each day on our pass. We have two more trips planned in 2007 and I love it. I just love it!! I currently own 350 points and I almost called my guide yesterday to go on a waitlist for more. I am hooked!

With each passing trip we continue to refine the way we do WDW. We haven't done the commando thing in years. Our most recent trip, which was two weeks ago, we spent 6 night and 7 days. We slept until 8 or 9, took our time getting ready, ate a little breakfast and then went out to do something for about 2-3 hours. Then in the afternoon we came back to the room and either relaxed (took a nap) or went to the pool for an hour or so. After that we alternated between going back out to do a few things, or sometimes we just went to dinner and then hung around the resort. When we do go the the parks we usually eat lunch somewhere and then do 2-3 rides/shows and that's it.

When we go in February I'm hoping to spend even more time in the resorts.
