Can you record "On Demand" movies?

You will most likely have to record it after it has been converted to analog but yes, you can record movies on demand. The thing about encryption is that at some point the movie has to be decrypted for it to be displayed and that is a loop hole that is quite literally unclosable. Even HDCP has been cracked (luckily) so it won't be long before an inline workaround is available for digital content.

The problem with all of these forms of copy protection is it keeps you from being able to make a backup of your own movies which is a total crock. You should be allowed to make a backup of something you own no matter what that horrid DMCA says.

I haven't been able to record them. There are moments of clarity, then I get snow for another couple seconds, a few seconds of bands across the screen & then fuzzy pictures, etc. on the recording.

Breaking encryption is a violation of federal law and the terms and conditions of the the rental. It is not appropriate to advocate illegal activity in online discussions.

If you record the analog downconvert, you are only violating the terms and conditions of the the rental, which is still wrong, but not a direct violation of federal law. However, you do get a substantially inferior video than the HD you get when watching the movie on the cable box itself.

The On Demand service is for watching programming as it is broadcast to you, when you order it. What you are supposed to do, if you want to be able to watch the movie at your leisure, is purchase a copy of the video disc. Please use that approach.

I can record PPV movies on Dish Network, which I assume is the same thing. Sometimes they have a time limit - you have to watch them in a certain number of days, and once you start the movie, you have to finish it within a certain number of hours.
