For DH and I, birthday meal for DD who will be turning six, and my MIL who hasn't been to WDW in over 20 years. I was thinking dinner at the castle, but after 2 character breakfasts, I was wondering how special DD would think it was without the characters. Can you order small birthday cakes at any of the restaurants?

Try the dinner at 1900 Park Fare, featuring -- drum roll, please -- Cinderella.

The food is excellent, and the atmosphere appropriately festive and fun.

A few years back, my wife surprised me with a birthday BREAKFAST there, and I got the royal treatment: balloons, a cupcake, a card signed by Mary Poppins (wow!) and a jolly singing of "Happy Birthday" from the staff, characters (including, at that time, Chip and Dale) and other diners. It was a blast :D

I'd recommend it highly. Give them a call and see what they do. I'm sure it will memorable and very special for everyone. Enjoy!

We just did 4 year old birthday at Ohana. Also had MIL. It was fun for all. DS loved the games and they bring a cupcake and sing happy birthday the polynesian way.

Food is also good and adults can get a celebratory cocktail. It is fun and a nice change from the characters.

We finally tried Cinderella's Royal Table the last time we visited (for dinner). and it was wonderful, there were lots of children there, who were just excited to be in the castle. The food and atmosphere are great and when we were leaving Cinderella and Prince Charming were greeting folks in the entryway, so we kind of had a 'private' audience.

See if you can get PS at the CG, and time it with the fireworks going off at the MK. They dim the lights and pipe in the music. What a great birthday experience! Call the CG directly and request a cake in advance.

We had DDs 7th b-day lunch at Cind. Castle. It was nice. Waiter brought a dessert (can't remember what it was) and threw confettii on her.

I just looked at the pictures - it was a pretty cup of ice cream with chocolate sauce, some cake and a chocolate tiara on top, and a candle. I can't remember if we paid for it.

Crystal Palce is fun we did one there one year and DS had a cupcake with candle and they sang to him and he got to dance with the characters. We did another last year at Whispering Canyon Cafe.. the food was okay... actually my fish was wonderful but they did some fun things for the Birthday boy
