Is it possible to not even try for ILL and just Rope Drop ROTR? I'm sure that is where 80% of the people at the gate will be headed, but I would think you stand as much of a chance doing that--than dealing with unwanted Return Times for ILL (from what I'm hearing).

Yes, it is possible.

We very recently entered the queue for Rise at 8:20pm. The park closed at 9pm. The stated wait was 130 minutes! We were off the ride at 9:30pm.

If you can stay late, I'd ride before closing. RD Slinky or Sunset Blvd. ::MinnieMo

Rope dropped it last Thanksgiving and it was slammed in the park that day. We were not in the front of the line for rope drop but we still managed a 40 minute wait which is pretty good for that ride.

The only disadvantage of this that I can think of at the moment is that if the ride goes down while you're in line and they disperse the line, you'll have to start all over again when the ride reopens. With an ILL, you at least get an anytime ILL for RotR so you can return at when the ride's back up and running and not have to wait (or wait very long).

I completely agree.

You may be better off waiting for the end of the day over fighting through the morning crowd. I’ve recently seen the actual waits for Rise drop to as low as 20 minutes shortly before closing time.

Yes! I just did it a couple weeks ago. The line *looked* bad—it was snaking around outside the official queue and even outside Galaxy’s Edge—but it moved quickly. I was off the ride within an hour of entering the park. I had a great time playing the RoTR Datapad game in line—can’t imagine paying money to skip that! :)

Just what I wanted to hear! Thanks!!!

I rope dropped ROTR President's day week and it was literally a walk on (as in it took 3 minutes to walk through the queue and enter the first preshow). I got on the first bus that left my resort (around 7:00-7:10ish) and entered the park at 7:30. I was off the ride by 8 am and managed to ride Smuggler's before official early entry started. I know that's really early but it was totally worth avoiding a 2-3 hour wait.

I didn't realize they let you in that early. I like this stragey better than forking over $75 for (5) of us to ride, lol

I didn't either, but I assume it was because it was President's Day week and HS was sold out (park reservation wise) for the entire week and they opened a little early due to demand. Galaxy's Edge was the only area open during that time; they were letting people line up for Slinky and the Sunset Boulevard rides but did not actually open them until 8:30. The Slinky line went all the way out towards the Animation Courtyard (this was at 8:30 early entry time and not 7:30 when I went to Rise) so yeah you should absolutely take advantage of riding Rise that early!!

My son and I rope dropped RotR during ETPE last Saturday. Actually, we arrived a few minutes after official rope drop so we were definitely nowhere near the front of the pack. The line was already backed up through the outside maze but it moved quickly and we were into the preshow after only about 30-40 minutes, far less that the posted wait time indicated. Of course, the crowds were much smaller on Saturday than they had been on our first visit the previous Wednesday so that probably helped. There were even some $ILLs available at the 8:30a park opening for us offsite folks (we stayed at a Good Neighbor hotel to get the ETPE) - a definite improvement from our first day!

On that Wednesday, we decided to rope drop Sunset Blvd. instead and that turned out to be the right call as RotR went down during ETPE. We didn't get in line for ToT until just before 8a and were able to get both ToT and RnRC done with minimal waits. We then headed over to RotR when they opened it back up and only waited about 30-40 minutes to get to the preshow. We felt quite fortunate!

We just got back from our trip. We were let in at 7:30 (we got there around 7 and were in the front of the line) instead of the posted 8:00 AM for resort guests. We walked right onto the ride. We could have ridden a 2nd time but chose to do Smuggler's Run instead. We did ride twice at the end of the day. Posted times said 40 minutes-it took 20 the first time and even less the second time.
