We will be staying at the POP Culture resort Apr 19 - 23. Purchased the hotle only through Amex travel. They had the resort available While disney.com did not have any value or moderate resorts available during that time. We really want the Dining plan but it was only available through Amex if you also purchased Air fare as well.

So can you purchase the dining option at your Disney resort at check-in?

Any hints or tips to get this done would be great.

Thank you.

No. The Disney Dining Plan is available only* in conjunction with a package that includes room and tickets (the same type/level for each person on your reservation).
But I'm surprised AmEx Travel can force you to purchase airfare to get the DDP where Disney doesn't, and that they don't have the package requirement - which Disney does.

*okay, fine - it's also available to Guests using DVC points to stay in DVC resorts with no 'package purchase' requirement, but that doesn't apply here anyway.

Actually, you can't purchase DDP through AMEX, no matter what you buy. Whoever told you that doesn't know what they're talking about. You can only get DDP as a package through Disney, or as a package through AAA. The packages include your room at a certain rate (usually rack through Disney), at least a one-day base park ticket for each person, and DDP.

No.

JimMia,

The DDP is NOT an exclusive option to Disney & AAA, Most major Travel agencies sell the product, even Dreams Unlimited Travel (an official sponsor of this message board) and who I recived a quote from and included the DDP.

So, for the sake of the ten of thousands of suscribers to this site (myself included) please only state true facts.

So to use your own words "Whoever told you that doesn't know what they're talking about" right back at ya!

IF, in fact, Amex has the ability to sell you DDP (which I doubt), it would include the required rate for the room, a one-day base park pass per person, plus the cost of the DDP. DDP is not about food; it's about filling onsite Disney resort beds at a certain room rate.

If AMEX is requiring you to purchase airfare from them to get what Disney will give you anyway, they are ripping you off. Disney does NOT require that. The +air package is the equivalent of the Super Bowl "Tickets at the legitimate price, but you have to pay $4,500 for the limo ride" package. It's a sucker deal and I'm glad you didn't fall for it.

Travel Agencies are just calling up Disney & getting the same package they offer everyone else so JimMia is correct.

To answer the original question.... From the Dining Plan FAQ:
How far in advance can I add the dining plan before my arrival?
The Dining Plan can be added to qualifying packages until shortly before your arrival date. The number of days varies depending on circumstances, so the recommendation is to be sure that you've made final arrangements at least five days prior.
