Can you purchase Disney Dollars with a Disney Gift Card?

I cashed in MyPoints for a $10 Master Card Webcertificate. I tried to use it to purchase Disney Dollars (read about another poster doing that), but the store would not accept it without the plastic card. So, I called the Disney Catalog store (800-237-5751) and ordered a Disney Gift Card. The smallest denomination is $25, so I put $10 on the webcertificate # and had $15 charged to my Amex. I'll be receiving the gift card in about a week. So, my question is, will I be able to use the gift card to purchase $25 worth of Disney Dollars at the Disney Store?

I know my DD had received a gift card as a birthday last Sept. She wanted to cash it in for Disney $$ since we were going in Dec. The store wouldn't allow it!! I used her gift card instead and gave her the Disney $$.

And that is what I have read on this board and was told at MY TDS, BUT, if you talk to the people on the Rewards Board, there are a number over there who have said that they HAVE gotten DD's with the Gift Card.

So my advice is this - call your TDS and ask to speak to a manager. IF they tell you that you CAN get DDs with the GC, then GET THEIR NAME and ask for them when you go to TDS.

is to purchase the "gift Card" for the mall that you shop at. Our Disney Store is at a Simon Mall so I have had luck purchasing the Simon Gift Card and then buying Disney Dollars.

Of course I purchase the gift card using my webbies I earned from my points - woo hoo!

That is exactly what I did with my WCs as well. My mall is NOT a Simon Mall, but they DO have a website where they sell GCs.

Also people on the Rewards Board have also reported success with just taking in the WC Master Card number (so they do not have to order the plastic MC) and using it to buy the DDs.

Personally, I like purchasing the mall GCs better. But different strokes for different folks.

I would just buy disney dollars to start with to give as gifts. They can be used at the Disney Store as well can't they?

You can use Disney gift certificates to buy passes, and I think for Disney Dollars, too.

The rule has changed several times in the last few years, and it comes up so rarely, that CMs do get confused.

I used a Disney gift card to purchase Disney dollars today. The manager read the back of the card and said it only says that it can't be used to pay a bill when I asked her if I could purchase Disney dollars with it.

on the rewards board...and then I called my Disney Store...and was told they were 95% sure that gift cards could be exchaged for disney dollars....I wanted to jump thru the phone and say WHAT-WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE 95% SURE?!?!?!
I'll call the store again and ask for the manager....I'll try it that way...

The Disney Store near me (Smithaven Mall) will accept gift cards for payment for Disney Dollars. I have done it several times. However, they won't let you use a merchandise credit.

Yikes!!! I ONLY added the $15 because that was the minimum amount of a gift card. And I ONLY purchased a gift card because the Disney Store would not accept the print out of the webcertificate! All I want to do is turn MyPoints into Disney Dollars! I'll try and get to the mall tomorrow...the one with the DS is some distance. I'll let you know how I make out. This is getting waaaay to complicated! From now on, I'm going to take another DISers advice and I'm only going to use the webcertificates to add a payment to the Dolphin reservations we have for next May!

Over the years it has seemed to depend on your TDS...my local one will not let you purchase DD with Gift Cards...

I had a $50 gift card from last Christmas and turned it in with no trouble to get Disney Dollars at our local DS prior to our trip last week. Are these some other kind of gift cards? Mine was one purchased at TDS.

I was able to buy $25 Disney Dollar using the Disney Gift card, at the Woodbridge Mall in NJ. Hooray, at last!

Ive been lucky so far with getting $DD with printing out the account page. Still I have 3 TDS within 1/2 hr from me. One of them insists on the plastic card so I avoid that one. I ran into a bit of a problem last time but I still got the $DD. At your TDS would they call the MC automation # to verifiy the account? That what the CM did last time the only problem was it took the money out of the account right away so when she went to ring it up it declined since the register tried to get the money out of the acount but when she callled to verifify the account it took the money out!!!!

She just got another manager to overide the register so I got my $DD

When I first approached the sales cashier with the webcertificate, she had no clue what it was. I explained, but she looked at me with distrust and called over the manager - who also had no clue what it was. Trouble was that the more I tried to explain it, the more suspect it sounded to them. I told her to call to verify. She did call someone, but I think it was just another DS, from what I could tell from her part of the conversation. Bottom line was that they HAD to have the plastic card and that was that. But, now that I know I can just convert the w/c into a DS g/c, and THEN purchase the D$, I'm ok with that too.

About a month ago I purchased a Disney Gift Card online through Mypoints then took it to the local Disney store here in New Orleans. I got Disney Dollars with no trouble because the manager said unless it specifically says not disney dollars then why not. Disney is still getting their money just in another way. Go try it, I dont think it will be a problem. Worst case scenerio is that they say no and if that is the case go buy your child or yourself some clearance stuff to take with you to save a little cash.

Read my horror story on the reward dis board site. I have waited for days to see if anyone reading this has ever had this happen to them. I have never read this happening to anyone else, and don't really understand why it happened to me.

Oh- it's under something like web cert, gift card, and unreasonable manager. I posted a reply to that original story last week.
