Just curious - if you ever were lucky enough to be in the position to be able to (maybe from a work bonus, lotto win, inheritence, tax return & so on) are you able to put this amount towards future years Annual dues? I realise that you wouldn't know the exact amount but just wondering if Member services can apply it to your account or something & have you in credit for whatever the amount is & then you don't pay again until that amount runs out. Can't imagine Disney (or any business) saying no to taking your money early (heh heh!) Thanks..........

I dont know if you can or not, but my question is why would you want to? stick it the bank and get the little bit of interest, pay by credit card when dues is due and earn your points, miles, disney dollars etc, and then pay the credit card from the account with the money.

no reason to give them the money to hold if you wont get some type of discount

If you really want to know the answer (no one here probably does), give Member Accounting a call (same number as MS - just a different option on the menu). Bet this is the first time anyone has asked them this, LOL.

If you do call and ask, please let us know wht they say.

Best wishes -

Why would I want to? Well I am not comlpetely sure that I would, but being Australian I also have to worry about the Aussie dollar compared to the US dollar. In the past 20 odd years I have seen it go from being dollar for dollar right down to being only worth 50c to the US dollar. Actually the only reason we are even in the process of buying into DVC through resale right at this moment is that our dollar is hovering around the 80c mark (which is the best it has been for years). When we first looked into DVC we could never have afforded it due to the exchange rate at the time (Go you little Aussie dollar!) So I am hoping that someone will know the answer, but if not it is no big deal - IF the oppotunity arises (wouldn't that be lovely), I can always find out then from Member services.

Of course, you could still circumvent the Aussie $ to USD exchange issue just by opening up a US based bank account. By depositing the monies in there, you would then guarantee your exchange rate and use that account to pay your dues anyway. You'd also probably be able to earn a small interest rate that way.

when I retire I am buying an annuity to pay the dues. My brother has trouble with finances and I would hate the kids to lose the DVC points - because of that.

but right now the interest rate on annuities is the worst it has been in years and years....

jel0511 Thanks for the suggestion about the US based bank account. I will look into that a bit further. I think I will also have a chat to our accountant. More than likely I will just wait & see if we are ever in that situation. LOL.

You can pay your dues once at the beginning of each calendar year for that year or via monthly debits to your bank account. There is no prepayment program for dues that would apply to any future years.

can you charge your yearly dues?
Yes, if you pay them in a lump sum at the beginning of the year. I charge ours to Disney Visa - every bit helps!

true it might be a worry but pre paying it doesnt solve the problem either. you could pay it all now(if the option existed) at 80 cents to the dollar and next year it might be 90. or it might be 70 theres now way to tell.

I am sure you can! They would just carry a credit balance and every year deduct the annual dues and send you the credit balance at the end of the year when they send out the dues bills. I pay my cable bill a year in advance. When I go away for long periods of time I pay my other house-bills months in advance. Anyone can do it.

I don't think it is that easy to open a US bank account when not a resident of US. Our guide told us we had to pay our dues annually as there was no other way. We were also told we could not get a Disney Credit Card as we were not residents of US. He certainly didn't explain that we could open US bank account.

Just another comment about paying by credit card. While you can't pay monthly with a credit card and we've discussed that you can use it to pay the whole thing at the beginning of the year, there is another use of the credit card. If part way through the year you decide to pay off the balance, you can also put that on your credit card. You also have the option of making that a permanent change or letting the next year's dues revert to the monthly withdrawal.
