can you "pay the difference"?

We are looking to buy into the DVC and we usually plan to travel during the Choice vacation period - and to travel once a year. We estimate that we will need 350 points per year. However in the next 50 years I'm sure at some point we might want to travel during the Dream or possibly occasionally even during Magic season which will require more points. I know we can bank and borrow points, however since we plan to travel every year..then banking and borrowing might not always be an option. So my question is if one year we need say 370 points - can we book the room with 350 and pay cash for the remaining 20 points? Or does anyone else know of any way to handle this should it come up?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't pay extra for points from Disney. But there are a couple of ways to accomplish the same thing.

There are usually rooms available that can be rented with cash. So you would use your points to stay for 6 nights, then make a cash reservation for the 7th night. The two reservations can be linked in the system and are as good as one 7 day reservation.

The other option would be to have some other owner transfer the points you need from their account to yours (presumably, you would pay them for this).

You have to book your cash night through MS to have it link to your points reservation. But cash nights are not always available, so that could be a problem.

We extended our Points Vacation coming up in July by doing this very thing......BOOKING CASH ROOMS at OKW and BCV for the higher point weekend points. We are staying on discounted cash our arrival day.....Sat. Then points Sunday-Thursday...then cash for Friday/Sat. (bigger discount for these two nights too...because I guess the season changes) then we switch to BWV and stay on points for Sunday-Thursday and discounted cash our last night on Friday. So instead of staying a week or 10 days on points we threw in cash nights, saved on weekend points by doing this and are staying for 14 nights. It is worth it for us.
