When we bought our house, this lovely vinyl paneling came with the basement bathroom! :headache: It's not really that ugly, I could make it work, but I wonder if it is possible to paint over it?

I should show you pictures of the bathroom we have at my father's house. Before we moved in, my sister painted it to resemble the color of a melted lemon lollipop... and gave up after one coat. :scared: I think that it would make you a lot more happy with your walls!

HERE is some good information about painting over vinyl. Hopefully it's helpful to you! :)

I know you can paint over the fake wood stuff but I don't know how successful you would be with that stuff since the surface is so shinny. Those panels are not expensive if you want to just cover over them-or take them off and redo. I know it isn't the "best" look but they have them that look like tile-all white or all light tan, for example.

I'll have to look into that! Thanks!

I was just going to suggest a good sanding to rough it up and epoxy paint, but the above poster's link looks like it has good info. :thumbsup2

Megs, I would either live with it or look into replacing it...maybe they have paint now that can do the job but since its a bathroom I don't know. About 10 yrs ago we tried to paint something similar in a bathroom and eventually after showers etc the paint just started peeling, bubbling, :scared1:

FWIW I don't think it looks that bad at all

as we have the EXACT same paneling in our downstairs bathroom and I have been itching to get in there and start remodeling!

What about putting vinyl wainscotting or beadboard over it?
