Can you own less than 150PTS?

Oops, pressed enter too soon...If you buy on the reslae, could you just buy 50 or 75 points for a first time purchase? I know Disney requires minimum 150 point purchase

My guess is maybe. I've heard of Disney exercising their right of first refusal on very small contracts going to first time buyers. Hey, it won't cost you anything if Disney does exercise, so try it. You might just get some points, if Disney does exercise any deposit monies you've sent will be promptly returned.

Yes you can I purchased a 60 points contract as my first contract. I would let your broker know this will be your primary contract. They should be able to work with you to buy what you want while avoiding Disney's ROFR. You will pay more per point than a 150 point resale would cost. You will also need to pay about $375 in closing costs that you need to figure in but I still paid about $10 less per point than what Disney charges.
I would call all of the major resale brokers and let them know what you are interested in buying. I would also check their web sites regularly. The contract I purchased had been on the web site for less than half a day and I was the second offer they had had. I had lost a couple because I waited. Small resales go fast.

With the current incentive, you would essentially pay $74 point. By the time you add closing costs to a small contract your price per point will be over $70 at any rate. With Disney, there are no other costs whatsoever, and you have the option of paying with a credit card or financing with Disney, as well as a much quicker closing and ability to make reservations.

Just a thought.

I suspect they are looking at the overall purchase price rather than the per point price. There is a slight difference between a 50 point resale even at a final price of $74 per point and a 150 point purchase at $74 a point.

I would consider there to be more than a "slight difference" in total price for a package of three times as many points. I was trying to provide some additional information. There is also the possibility that they are under the mistaken impression that they are looking at 50-75 points at $60 a point or some other such nonsense and can budget that amount, or less, at this time. If they are aware that 50 points resale would cost about $3600 and you are expected to pay cash up front or you could purchase 150 from DVC and pay as little as $1,110 down (on a credit card even) and finance (assuming they have decent credit) We can "suspect" all day long, but I took a few minutes to try to be helpful, not just criticize something that perhaps I did not understand.

If they are only concerned with total price, then they were certainly free to disregard what did not apply to their situation. If, however, they were not aware of the incentive and fuller picture of resale versus direct from DVC, then maybe I provided something that helped their decision.
