Can you order appetizer vs entree?

Can you order an appetizer as your entree vs an actual entree? Some places have nachos and things like that that I may be in the mood for vs some large entree.

I have read (here maybe?) that you can get an appy for an entree.

Yes. When DH and I dine, one of us usually orders an entree and the other a salad. Then we share.
