Can you lie about the age of your child?

1. MYOB
2. You're too judgemental/Holier than thou
3. Don't you have better things to do? More important things to worry about?
4. Everybody does it (or something else)
5. It's actually big bad xyz corporation's fault for charging too much for something I want.

Well that made me feel better. I can now unilaterally declare it grape sampling day at Kroger without that useless thing for suckers called a consciience getting in the way and it's lunch time. Well off to the super.

I dunno...I kinda laugh at my boys at buffets. I swear they can pack away more than I can and I'm paying next to nothing for them to eat! I think when they turn 10, I won't feel agast at all that I have to pay full price. There's a little buffet place here called Izzy's where it's FREE for kids 3 and under- my son will be 4 in a few days and we went to eat there a couple weeks ago. He ate about 4 pieces of pizza (smallish), a piece of chicken, melon, cookies, cucumbers, carrots....I felt like I should have paid a couple of bucks at least!

That's tough. I really don't think 9 should be the cut off. I think 12 should be. $25 for a buffet for a 10 yo? I have a 9 yo so I'm good this year, but don't know what we'll do next year. What about 3 yo who barely eat anything..do we have to pay for them? Can't we just pay for one and let them share?

I am afraid that people(CM's mainly) will think that I am lying when I tell them that my youngest daughter is 2. She is way off the charts with her height(she is soooo tall) and she won't be 3 until April. We are going to Disney the first week of September and I am thinking about taking something that proves that she really is two. I don't want anyone to think that I am lying about her age. I would not do that.

I'm in the same situation. My daughter will turn 3 the last day of our trip, which is not a park or buffet day, just a DTD/plane ride home day so no need for a park ticket or anything. She is very tall for her age and people are always a bit taken aback when they ask her age and I tell them she's only 2. I can already see the dis-believing looks I'm probably going to get, but you know, there's nothing I can do about that. She really will be only 2 still, and I will know in my head that we are perfectly legitimate. Still, I'm not looking forward to the judgemental looks from people who can't bear to mind their own business.

And yes, I did schedule our vacation a week before my daughter's birthday so that we could take advantage of her 'freedom' one last time before we have to start forking over the $$$ for her tickets and food. So sue me. :rolleyes1

As for the OP, I would just do what you are comfortable with and hope that the subject does not come up during your dinner with this other mother. She has to live with herself. And who knows, maybe the daughter will insist on telling the server that she's 10 and the mother will have to end up paying anyway...

IMO there are many 10-11 yo kids who eat plenty but probably just as many who eat next to nothing. It seems that it would all come out even in the end.

What comes around goes around.....
Do what you know is right. :)

As for ordering off the kids menu-the waitress comes, I say "kids meals burger, kids meal hotdog, a side salad" (or whatever!)then DH orders. They don't know who is eating what... Maybe my daughter is eating the salad and I am eating the burger....As long as you are paying for it all, does it matter who eats it? We always pick off each others plates and share!
But lying about the age on the park admission tickets-that is wrong. My friends daughter is 7, and the size of a 4 year old. There are lots of rides she can't go on. My daughter is 10 and the size of an 8 year old, there are rides she can't go on, but I have to pay more. My friends daughter is 7 and taller than my 10 year old, and she can pay less and go on more rides....is it fair?
Should you be charged by height like at some places??.......

One more thing-WOW some people really get their shorts in a knot! Calm down! There are more important things in life then getting all upset about something someone is doing/not doing. You don't even know these people! Is what they are doing going to affect your life? Your family? If the answer is no-don't worry about it! :)

The more I look at this thread the more it bothers me. I would no way have my child lie to anyone about his age or anything else. Yes I did, like I posted before, tell Disney that he was under 3 when he realistically turned 3 the day before we left for disney knowing what type of child my son is. He was never asked his age throughout the entire time he was there. If he was, I would have never told him not to tell his true age. The thing that gets to me about the people posting how they never lie and never would do anything like that is that I have read numerous posts on this website of people who don't state a 5th person in the room so they don't have to pay for them, people who ask their children to stand on their toes or stuff their shoes so they can get on a ride, people who on the current meal plan pay for the childrens price ($10 per day) but yet don't use the credits for the child and use them for an adult meal instead (and pay the child's meal price), etc. etc. etc. Those are the same little white lies. Why do people make judgement on everyone else, but don't look at what they do themselves. Now I'll get off my soapbox!

I'm just cancelling all buffets and dinner shows. I know my DD turned 10 on June 10 and it isn't worth it for two reasons 1. we've gone to many buffets and dinner shows at WDW in the past so it isn't a loss for us 2. I refuse to teach her to lie for the benefit of saving a few dollars. What others choose to do is their own business, I figured I'd voice my opinion FWIW (doubtfully anything) to WDW by withdrawing my PS's for buffets and dinner shows!

My son ate like a bird until this year! He turned twelve and now he eats like a Hoover vacuum gone mad. I have actually bought him two dinners before because he can eat them! Twelve would be MUCH more appropriate than 9.

He is still tall and skinny-skinny, if only I could eat like that again!

Marie,

You follow your morals and your friend follows hers. If she lies about her childs age, does that make it "right" to do so? To her it may be fine to do, to you, it appears that you disagree. Personally I do not think she is setting a positive example for her daughter, but hey, that's me. In all honesty, I would let it go and just feel good that I am telling the truth about my childs age, regardless if they could afford Disney's prices better or not.

With that being said, last year when I made our PS for our trip, I was asked the ages of my children at that time. When we checked in at the various establishments, the information that I provided was in the computer (a "print out"), and the ages of my children were already known. So basically your co-vacationer would have to plan ahead in order to lie well or not make any PS for your upcoming trip for her family.

Have a great trip!

I dont think the servers follow this when they charge for meals. In Feb my DD was still 2 just barely, she was turning 3 in March.I made the PS for LTT i made it for 2 adults 1 child DS 4 and one infant DD almost 3. DD looked like she was 3 and they charged me for her meal. I had to have them adjust it. I think she may have thought i was scamming her but she did take it off. When we go back next time i will have to pay for DD since she is now 3.

They sure followed the rule for my family. When we checked in and gave our last name, a CM would then look at a list and say "2 Adults and 2 Children, 6 and 3 ???". At certain buffets the "2 A, 2 C" were even written down on a slip of paper and then given to the CM server waiting on us. Of course this was last March (04'), so maybe this info is old news and nowadays servers do not pay too much attention ..... :confused3
