Can you just order apps, and or salad instead of an entree?

I have already made my DDP ADR's for my Late may trip , but I'd like to do a light lunch OOP at Chefs de France in Epcot. We have an Early Dinner Beirgarten buffet ressie so I don't want to eat a lot, but would love to try to share appies with Dh and DD. I'll pay out of pocket for this at Chefs. I'd love to suprise DD with Remy since he will appear there at Lunch. Since I'm planning to pay OOP, could we do this?

If you are on the basic DDP you are "entitled" to one entree and one dessert, and one non-alchoholic drink. If you order an appetizer or salad then that would be OOP as they do not allow you to substitute dessert for the appetizer. Some restaurants allow you to substitute the salad or appetizer for your entree, but I think it is up to each individual restaurant to determine that, but I don't see why not since it would cost Disney a lot less to give you an appetizer instead of an entree. Are you sure you want to be on the dinning plan if you prefer to eat light? Although we enjoyed the convenience of the plan, you do get way too much food (IMHO) and I felt that we overate during our trip. Of course loading up with snacks at Goofy's candy shop didn't exactly help either :rotfl: ! I think I had figured that each table service meal was worth approx. $28.00 and most appetizers and a dessert would be much less than that. Still, we found the DDP to be an excellant value. Next trip we will avoid the buffets and just stick to the gourmet type restaurants. Our favorites were Coral Reef and Kona Cafe! Enjoy planning your trip. I spent hours pondering all the restaurant choices and our trip turned out really, really great! Just wish I could plan another trip!!! Again, have fun!

OOPs, just re-read your post, and realized I didn't really answer. I think Chef du france is not part of the DDP and so yes, you can order what you want and pay out of pocket!

Yes you can. They cannot force you to order an entree. OOP you may order whatever you choose. Hope this helps! :goodvibes

I believe Chefs de France is part of the dining plan, but Bistro de Paris is not.

Dining plan or not, you can order whatever you want at any restaurant. If you are on the dining plan, it is not the best use of your dining credits to only order an app or salad, but you can do that. If paying OOP, it does not matter at all and you can order anything.

We frequently order 1 or 2 appetizers and then 2 salads. We've done this at Disney with absolutely no problem. The food is great, and we don't feel stuffed.
We don't DDP, we're always OOP. Compared to the cost of entrees, this really saves us $$.

I do that often, I enjoy having a salad and an appetizer, as we got to DW in August and it is often too hot to eat.
Chefs de France does have some nice choices at lunch that are lighter.
