Can you identify what kind of tree this is and where all 7 of them are located WDW?

I love finding the "hidden" magic around WDW. The hidden access points on Toy Story, the hidden RFID readers in the parks (for merchandise and soon people), etc.

I can only imagine how many hidden security cameras there are at WDW.

I'm kind of looking forward to RFID, I could send my kids out in the parks alone! They have them at another park, I think it was Dollywood.

After a while, and so many visits seeing the hidden magic is definately something to appreciate.

This was interesting, thanks for sharing it.

There's one "behind" AK. As you are driving up to the parking lot its very noticeable since it towers (no pun intended) over all the other trees.

BTW Mike, you might be interested in this story about the Mickey head electrical transmission tower that's visible just off I-4 and World Drive.

Jeff, I had never seen that before. I have been to the World a bunch of times since '96 and had never seen it.

Here are some pics.

:surfweb: I had to Bing "RFID".

From wikipedia.org:

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the use of an object (typically referred to as an RFID tag) applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves. Some tags can be read from several meters away and beyond the line of sight of the reader.

Here is the short version:

WDW is using RFID for tracking merchandise. DCL is using RFID for tracking kids. The next wave will probably be wristbands that function both as resort room keys and personal charge cards for guests, allowing them to buy food and souvenirs without carrying a credit card or cash. Disney has all ready moved their infrastructure towards this. Disney has combined their reservations and Dinning, tours, golf, ticketing databases into one common system. Being able to attach a unique RFID code to the individual will allow WDW to track purchases, what rides you ride, when you are in your room, what temp you set your to, when and where you eat, what form of transportation do you take (Monorail, Boat, Bus). What the big rumors from some of the CM's are is the ability to customize your retail and ride experience based on your RFID tag. Very "Minority Report." This will also be how Disney tracks ride times and how many people enter and leave a ride. No more turnstiles.

The readers are normally embedded above door ways, in the merchandise areas of the WDW. I like to take my RFID developement reader into the parks and see what all is tagged.

Disney is investing over ONE BILLION DOLLARS (sinister Dr. Evil laugh) into this technology. Too bad they can not sink a fraction of that cash into getting their websites to work.

This is your trough. Show me how the piggies eat. Be a good boy. Show mommy how the piggies eat.
